AT&T's EDGE Network Faster Today??

Tonight, many forum members here and at other forums have reported that their EDGE network speeds may have been boosted substantially -- with benchmarks around 200kbps (25 Kilobytes/second).

While there had been rumors that AT&T had been working to upgrade their network to boost speeds from a paltry 40kbps (5 Kilobytes/second), we can't be certain if these numbers truly represent actual speed increases or simply faulty benchmark tools.

(posted this story for your interest and debate.)

So if you have Edge can you please do a speed test and post your results and city you are in. To compare nation wide speeds.

I used Cellular Video last night and it worked much better than the night before. Didnt get a change to do a speed test but i live in fernandina beach, fl 32034

But last night, reports began filtering in from AT&T subscribers that the dog-slow network was now noticeably faster. Gizmodo reported earlier this month that AT&T had a project called Operation Fine EDGE that was aimed at increasing speeds. EDGE normally gets around 40 Kbps -- less than a 56K modem -- but in tests last night, Engadget found speeds of over 200 Kbps.

most definitely a wise move on at&t/cingular's part.

Why are people thrilled that edge may have moved from sub-dial up speed to sub-first generation dsl speed?
