world phone?

Hoping someone has an answer...

We know iPhone is a quad band (world) phone. Yet, it is locked with AT&T. On top of that, it has a SIM tray.

To me, these are mixed signals. I travel between Canada and US alot. I don't mind using 2 SIM cards (one for each country), but they must work on 1 iPhone. Will I be able to do this?

Can anybody shed any light on this confusion?

The phone is going to be locked for use on cingulars network only, just like any other major gsm carrier's phone's. I'm not sure what the likelihood of being able to unlock this one is going to be.

Thanks, needanew1.

I thought that might be the case, which is really disappointing. Makes me wonder what the point is if it's supposed to be a world phone.

It is so your phone will roam internationally, but you are stuck paying the high roaming rates. (.79/Min in Canada) you can add at&t's world traveler package but that just drops it down to .59/min
