Bye for now Moto

My V551 was dying and I just got tired of waiting for the ROKER E2 to be released here so yesterday I picked up a Sony Ericsson W180i.
Moto has forgotten it's roots it seems. ☚ī¸

experiences with the ROKR?

i'm looking into a new phone and searching for a way to condense some gadgetry and i'd like something that can be:

-a world phone (especially need it to work in latin america so it will have to be GSM); need phone + data transfer

-i want it to play music off an SD card/Memory Stick PRO Duo

i have some experience with motorolas having used a SLVR (which i didn't like at all- esp. the menu navigation, never quite got used to it).

what are people's experiences with the ROKR? is it possible to:

-load up a bunch of MP3s on an SD card and play in them in the ROKR without having to go through itunes?

-what's the size limit on SD card?

-how's the reception on these?

thanks all

Only drives headphones?? Can this be true?!?!

I haven't been using my ROKR E2 as an MP3 player yet because I don't have a "big enough" SD card (it arrives tomorrow) but last night I plugged the phone into my stereo to amuse myself, and IT DIDN'T WORK!!! It just played the songs through the speakerphone. Then I tried plugging it into my computer speakers and that didn't work either! Then I did some googling and found this:

http://www.linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8243331060.html »

To our surprise and horror, the Rokr punted when asked to drive a car- or home-stereo's line-in jack, falling back on its tiny, tinny built-in speakerphone speaker after about half a second. This seems like a serious failing, since every other portable stereo device we've ever used could easily be plugged ...

Sony Alternative?

Does anyone know if Sony Ericsson is planning on adding a 3.5 headphone jack to their music phones?

I'm liking my old w600i's software more and more 😕

Calendar Alarm Once Please???

Does anyone know if you can, and how to, set your phone to alarm just once for a calendar event?

I'd just like a little beep (and vibrate) just like an incoming text message...but instead it behaves like the alarm. It will play the selected sound over and over and over and over....

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Does not support 4gb sd cards

The review on OSNews (?) said that it did, but I just got my mail order 4gb card and it doesn't work. Hopefully somebody will buy it on craigslist.

Email Client

Does anyone know if the Email client on the phone is a stand-alone app that can link to POP/SMTP or do you have to use the crappy/slow media mail (like cingular). Basically, is there any chance this phone will work for a light mobile emailer?

shorty

Ps. Is the phone really coming out in the middle of Oct?

850 version?

So far as I am aware, this phone was originally intended to be released as a quad-band, and this is what is currently showing for sale (finally) on mobilebee.com. However here on PhoneScoop it is listed as tri-band 900. Motorola's web-page for the E2 is stunningly useless and contains essentially no tech info. Perhaps the 900 version is related to the China release a few months ago, and there are 2 versions on the market?

Flashing Red Icon during charge?

Any ideas why the battery indicator would flash red when the charger is attached, but 3 green bars when unplugged? Phone tools shows 100% when the phone is unplugged from the charger but 5% when on the charger. WTF?

Battery model number?

I bought this phone on eBay but the seller forgot to include the battery somehow. (?!?!?!) Does anybody know how to get a battery for this thing in the US? I can't find information about the battery model number in the manual. I might just go to a Cingular store tomorrow and see if they have anything that looks compatible but I'm not holding out hope. How depressing.

Aside: I read one review online about how the phone theoretically supports 4GB SD cards. Does anybody know for sure if this is the case? I'd hate to spend money on a 4GB card and not have it work.

settings

Does anyone know where to get the Cingular MMS and internet settings sent to this phone...Similar to Nokia on Sony Ericsson phones where you can go to the website. I've tried entering it in manually and I can't get it to work.

Ov: I just heard Mid Oct for Cingular in the States :vO

đŸ¤Ŗ I'm so excited right now!!!! It's supposedly Cingular only and possibly due out Mid Oct.... Everything I heard is sic except they are saying the ring isn't very loud but it has like preset eq, bt capability, bass boost, on and on... I'm almost to the point of getting one from Hong Kong unbranded... has english... it about $300 to 350 US with shipping and I saw the inside... drawback one E1 looking speaker in back and supposedly 2 smaller speaks in front... So much info I'm overloaded right now....

Improvements over E1...But?

I can see great improvements over the E1, which I have. The 3.5 jack, larger display, USB 2.0 & Edge (huge ones IMO), FM Radio, camera.

My concern is that they only increased the internal memory to 10MB? Is this phone still going to have the lag issue? With a larger display it would be great to throw a few sitcoms or cartoons for the kid on it. The Rokr E1 really lags when it plays video from the card. Just wondered if this would as well.
Since this phone has streaming vid unlike E1 does it preform better? Also why they do any w/ the stereo speakers?

Thanks

Anything new on availability?

Ive been checking around for this answer and cant seem to find a clear one (although i may just be in denial). Is this phone ever coming to the US? and if so when and with what carrier?

Main thing about this phone I love is the 3.5 headphone jack. Why is it so dang hard for other phone manufacturers to have this????? Its pretty annoying, cause 3.5 is the standard for headphones/speakers. As far as im concerned these mp3 phones with 2.5 jacks arent replacing my mp3 player cause you cant hook it up to standard speakers and let your friends on the beach or at a bbq hear it. If another phone has the 3.5 jack that has similiar features let me know please. This ROKR 2 has been a tease for some time now.

thanks

RELEASE DATE!!!!!!!!

MOBILE BEE WILL BE RELEASING THIS PHONE ON APRIL 1, 2006. They're selling it for $399.99 unlocked. U can watch it on CES at http://reviews.cnet.com/Motorola_ROKR_E2_blac k/4505-6454_7-31660610.html?autoplay=true. (Copy & paste in browser if needed). On the video review, senior editor Kent German accidentally blurts out the carrier that will sell the phone. So, expect this phone to be provided by the Cingular service guys. Can't wait!!!!! 😁
