SIM vs memory card AND Where are Contacts stored??

Is there any compelling reason to store files or programs in one place versus another?

Also, Anyone know where the contacts are stored? Is there any way that I can store the contacts on the sim card in such a way as to make them available when using my cheapo Samsung 270? (Probably stored in different formats but had to ask)

Key Tones-> Can they be changed???

Is there any way to select new key tones? I didn't see any way via a setup menu but perhaps a "tone" file can be changed? Anyone done this yet?

Adding short cuts to the 'Go To'

Hi All,

i actually re-ordered my 6682 last week after being ticked at Let's Talk, but a nice agent there talked me down & hooked me up. I got it today & have been playing w/ it today & i must say i'm happy w/ it.

but as i was customizing it for me, i was trying to add some shortcuts to my 'go to' but i can't seem to find anything that will let me add it to the 'go to' as described in the manual....

...if anyone could help me i'd greatly appriciate it.

Thanks,

Question Regarding 6681

I currently own a Nokia 6600 with T-mobile. I wanted to upgrade to the Nokia 6681, because I've been told i can't use the 6682 because it uses GSM 850 which is not supported by T-mobile. My question: is there a significant upgrade to go from a Nokia 6600 to the 6681 or should I wait until the N70 comes out? Also, If I get the unbranded 6681 will it be able to have MP3 ringtones? Is the quality of the MP3 player on the 6681 close/comparable to the iPod?? and Finally other than the GSM900/GSM850, is there any other differences between the Nokia 6681 and Nokia 6682?

Dual voltage rc mmc

Where is the best place to get the 512 mb dv mmc cards. I ordered from Flash memory and can't get them to answer my email. Looks like they are out of stock.

Love the 6682 but need more memory than what comes with it. 😳

MMS-compatible files?

What kind of audio files can be attached to a MMS message? I've tried to send MP3 and midi files and they don't work. My wife sent me a midi from her v551, which worked, but I can't even send that file to anyone. The only audio files that work are the ones the voice recorder makes.

Memory Full

When I try to load ESPN or NFL.com on Netfront I get Memory Full switching to SIR. Does anyone else have this problem? Also, unlike the 6620, I can't keep open Opera and Netfront or Netfront and Image viewer or I get the message memory is full. There is plenty of room on the memory card as well as memory left on the internal phone memory.

Thanks for your help.

File limits and "DRM"

Today I tried to put a 12 meg mp3 file on the phone through BT and it ran out of memory. The file sending goes through messaging, which means that it probably resides in phone memory before you tell it where to save so even though I had plenty of space on the MMC, it ran out of space transferring it. Is there another way to get files directly to the memory card without going through messaging? Would a MMC card reader work?

Another limitation I thought was very strange was that I can't send a MIDI file through any means: BT, MMS or Postcard. For BT it says invalid type, but for the others it says its protected. Now these are midi files that I put on the phone myself, not existing ringtones. I was even able to email it to my wife's motorola...

****PING**** Paxtonc

You said you were using a 512 card. What manufactuer is it? As I understand the only requirement is that it be dual voltage. I would like to get one but on most I can not verify voltage.

Copying the address book!?!?!?

I had a Nokia 3600 for the last 2 years and love the address book features of the Nokia 60 series. I had several customized "labels" on a good percentage of my 140 contacts. (i.e. renaming "Tel. (home)" as "Home" or "Tel. (work)" as "Work")

  • When I used my SIM to transfer my address book, I only got one number per entry.

  • When I used the Nokia suite software to sync with Outlook, I got my multiple numbers per entries back.

  • When I used the build in program under "Tools/Transfer", I got the default number setting and the picture that I had associated with each entries.

The last option was cool because you put your SIM in the older phone. The 6682 will allow you to acc...

ATTWS customer denied 6682

I'm a legacy ATTWS customer with a plan that Cingular won't match, therefore migration is a no-go. I called today to upgrade to the 6682, but was told the device was only available to true orange Cingular customers. Was told it wasn't even supported for ATTWS legacy customers. Any thoughts/experiences with that line?

Also, any idea whether buying a cingular locked 6682 would work with my ATTWS sim/plan? Or do I need to find an unlocked phone and lock it to ATTWS (rather than cingular) settings?

the real facts

i am going to get this phone but first i want some feed back from people who really have and use this, here are some questions i have. what is the real battery life- stand by and talk. what color is the key-pad back light. how does the speaker sound- in " speaker phone" and regular talking. and how sturdy is the sliding back cover for camera. those are some questions that i had and honest feedback would be great thanks.

MEdia?

This is my first Series 60 phone so please forgive me if this is obvious but why is the "MEdia" button spelled with two caps?

Is this a bug or some stupid marketing play on "My Media"?

Impressions of phone:

Smaller than I thought. Only slightly wider than my now old 6200. People were right about the buttons they have a great feel when pressed but they're a bit small but shouldn't be a problem after you get used to it.

Cingular "Talks" Software

I was just wondering if anybody had heard anything about the Talks software for the blind that is supposed to be released with this phone. Cingular doesn't know anything about it. A conference early this year said that the software was supposed to be released with the phone so you could get it preinstalled.

I've tried many times calling cingular both the corporate store in the area and the customer service, they keep giving sending me to a different 800 number to call.

Any information is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Low earpiece volume issues on 6682??

Hey, I have noticed that the earpiece volume on my 6682 is not very loud in most instances..especially when I talk to my brother who is on Altels's network and when I call landlines. Is there any software/programs available online that can increase the phones output volume or will the phone have to have a firmware upgrade for that? Anyone else noticed this issue on their phone? thanks
