Motorola V551 / V330 / V547 / V555 / V557

I'm transitioning from a Nokia 3650 to the Motorola V551 and am concerned I might be losing one of my favorite features with the V551 -- the ability to sync my contacts and calendar (using Lotus Organizer) between my PC and phone via Bluetooth. I can find no information about this on the Motorola site and repeated calls to customer service end up with horrible busy signals. Even an email question to them has gone unanswered despite the automated response promise to be contacted in one business day.

So, experts, is this possible and, if so, through what software? And how do I get it? Or, have I compromised this feature away?

Does anyone know if you can mute the key tones while on a call?

If someone is relaying a phone # while on speaker and you press the # keys during the call, it will make a loud irritating noise in the ear of the caller on the other end.

I have the key volume to 0, and the keys don't make noise when not on a call, but are still very loud when on a call. I tried silent mode also to no avail.

Any ideas?

Does it fit phone well? Does it transmit the vibrate function to your hip sufficiently? Does it hold the phone securely? Can you open the 551 lid while in the case? Can you use the plugin @ bottom while in the case?

Does anybody know anything about the area code being required on every call on cell phones? I made several local calls over the weekend on my cingular v551, and it never even rang, it told me call could not be completed as dialed. Then i redialed with the area code and it worked just fine. Can somebody explain? Also, does anybody know if you can set the v551 to automatically dial the area code?

FINALLY, I found a way to make the Moto V551 ring and vibrate at the same time. I've been told it was impossible, but I did it! Immediately when receiving a call, VM, text, the phone vibrates while the ring tone is playing. This adds a new setting in the audio menu, as well as when the phone is closed, it adds a new setting to the side buttons. You have to have a data cable and the programs to edit seem files. Here is what you need to do:

Download seem 0032_0001 from your V551.

Change (hex edit) Seem - 0032_0001 offset 7A - bit 4: Vibe and Ring (1 on, 0 off)

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the "capabilities" of the v551. I read heard something about you being able to unlock the phone. What does it mean to unlock a phone? They also said that you can change the faceplate. Does anyone know anything about any of this? They said you can change the startup/shutdown screens and sounds and change the external display. Please give me some feedback bc i would like to see if there is any truth to this? Have any of you done this? Thanks. Chad

Has anyone tried it before, the model number is MA-8860C? It is a very nice cellular data transfer tool for V551! Easy to use and great features! Plus, the price is only US$ 29.99 (tax not inclueded), great price, great features, and great product! You really cannot miss it!!!

Is it possible to unlock ringtones that i've downloaded so I can send them to another phone.

And another thing, whats the best way to go, Bluetooth or USB Cable for the V551. I want to be able to send my own mp3 ringtones so what type of software should i get?

I am looking for a Bluetooth headset, but none of them seems to be without a flaw or two of some kind. Would you share your own experiences with Pros and Cons?

Not only will it not play the mp3's included, but it won't play ones I download. I try to change the ringer to any of the default sounds, and they don't work. Other systems sounds seem to work. Only two ringes will work (continental,siren)...the rest, I get a click noise and nothing. I just got this phone...should I return it for another, or am I missing something? (Please, don't say to turn the volume up)

I want the phone to hang up when I close it. Is this not possible? Do I really have to open it back up and hit the end button? Also, can I sync this phone with a mac? I keep reading that the bluetooth doesn't work with mac. But most important, I JUST want to hang up when I close the dang thing.

What is the bluetooth version on the V551? I have heard this thing about Bluetooth version 1.2 So, Im curious what version I've got.

I received a disk when I got my mobile phone tools and data cable that has a bunch of jad and jar files, although I have no idea how to get them onto my phone where they can be used. Can anybody offer some assistance on this?

I have mobile phone tools version 3.19 and have pluuged my v551 into my pc with the usb cable .. I can not click on the tab that will allow me to do things with images and media !! All of the other tabs are working and I can click on them.. The only thing I really bought mp tools for was so i could send files and images.. and no luck !! Anyone have any ideas why it wont work !! Anyway, the screensavers that come standard with the phones, I'm assuming I'll be able to add my own, but do I do those in MPG format and transfer them via Mobile Tools or is there another trick to this?

I just got the v551, and the right soft key is set to Video Camera. Since the video camera sucks, I don't plan on using it and would like to change the right soft key in the Home Screen. Unfortunately, Settings->Personalize->Home Screen lets you change the left soft key but not the right soft key. Anyone know how to do this?

does this phone record video in qcif (176/144)? if not what is the format? I know it records in mpeg4 but what is the resolution it records in?

I've been having a problem with my v551 on cingular. When I first got it, for about a week, calls to other cingular customers lost audio after 6-8 minutes. I.E. the earpiece just stopped and the other person usually couldn't hear me. Then, after a week or so, it stopped. I figured all was fine, and it was for about 2 weeks. It's started doing it again, on calls to cingular people and land lines. Sometimes the call will drop, other times I'll have to hit end 3 or 4 times to get the call to end.

Any ideas?

Is there some sort of program that can increase the volume of my MP3's so they would simply play louder? Granted, this would not be directly related to solely mp3 downloads, but Nero just doesn't do the trick.

Are there any MP3 editors out there that can increase the overall volume of a file? Any assistance would be appreciated, as the mp3's I currently have on my v551 are pretty muffled... 😡
