If you don't understand what this says....it says that you can use an mp3 editing software to changed the file size to 300k worth of the song and it will play it. Lets face it. Does your phone ring for an entire song anyways?

Well, because lets say you don't like the intro of a song but you like a certain verse or chorus. You can cut the portion of the song you like and put that as your mp3. That is the only way I know to get around the overridden BS settings. I but all my phones non-branded to avoid issues like this. Besides how many ringtones do you need? One for every contact?

hecks ya i also work for a cell company and having a distinct ringtone for every contact and being able to use my phone the way it was built from the factory instead of having it governed like our cars are just sucks ... its just another way for the company to stick it to the customer by limiting them and forcing them to buy their freaking ringtones which sucks since i buy the phone and the service from the company you think being loyal to them for over 4 years would buy you some consideration ... i like my freedoms and my choices ... i guess when my contract runs out i won't be renewing i'll just pay the ebay people to sell me a phone ... loyalty means nothing to these cell companies anymore

This is not a locked feature. This was never a feature of the phone in the first place.

Do you know the difference between a Honda Accord and a Civic? Higher model. Same difference between the S710 or W600 or W810 and the W300, higher models.

But then again if you had bought from a Cingular store we could have answered that question beforehand.

WOW.. talk about angry.. perhaps reflashing the firmware on your phone would help keep you from having a heart attack..There is an inherent risk but it seems you are willing to take it.. 😉

Those corporate bastards closed that loophole as well. No adding insurance after the purchase.

Is the W300 even insurable?

Well,

The W300i was not designed with the ability to make ringtones out of the phone's stored music, different memory set. It does however have bluetooth file transfer and you could make your own customer ringtones for free on your own computer.

Oh, and you don't have to take the rebate if you don't want it. It is IN ADDITION to the 2 year discount. Yeah, it is a rebate, but if you don't want to spend 5 minutes to get the extra money I guess that is your prerogative.

And where exactly did you buy your phone anyways? Online, Best Buy? Cingular retail stores, at least in the Central Region, are not carrying that phone. Billing problems when you buy online or national retail, my gosh who ever heard of such a thing.

Um thats wrong. I work for cellular one and we have the unlocked w300i and you can use full mp3's as ringtones. its the cingular locks and branding. i know i need to flash the phone but seriously one of the largest companies in the cellular market scamming customers for ringtone money by putting a lock on a WALKMAN phone is ****ing lame.

And you don't even have your own service?

Why did you not buy your own version then?

Sounds fishy to me.

The w300 certainly has the ability to use mp3s as ringtones.. You can try dragging the files into your Ringtones folder on the phone.. if it still won;t work and you don't want to flash the phone, you can try a little utility that Sony has available for download here

http://developer.sonyericsson.com/site/global/home/p ... »

Go to docs&tools then miscellaneous.. you will see a download called DRM Packager. When you run it you can add an mp3 you wish to use it will create a drm-ed copy of the file which you can drag into your ringtones folder on the phone and that should work for you..
Hope this helps!
