Sorry Cingular T-Mobile Dominates according to JD Power

imcoolerthanyou

Mar 16, 2006, 11:40 AM
Everyone go to JDPower.com right now. New rankings are out for call quality. T-mobile is the best in 3 regions, and Verizon leads in others or is a close second. Cingular on the other hand is dead last in almost every region behind T-mobile, Verizon, Sprint, Quest and even Nextel!

You might also be fasinated with the other categories:

1. Wireless Service Satisfaction - T-mobile dominates in EVERY SINGLE REGION.

2. Customer Care - T-mobile dominates everyone.

3. Retail Sales Perfomance - T-mobile dominates along with verizon.

Sorry for the bad news, but for all of you that always bash on T-mobiles coverage problems, here ya go.

doesn't t-mobile roam on cingular's towers anyway?

all my friends that have t-mobile only have it for the unlimited text (which they can't even use when off t-mobile's network.. which is pretty often), and they hate their service. i'm glad i'm rid of it.

but in any case, congratulations to them for the good review. 😉

also, JD Power is a survey where they ask a few thousand people how they like their service, quality, etc. No field test was done to validate those claims. When you work with such a small sample of such a large group of users, results can change like you change your underwear (hopefully thats daily after a shower). Look for the drive tests where calls are being made and truly tested. Not based on the opinion of a small few. The funny thing is that it showed Cingular last in the southwest region. LOL. This is their best region and home to their best network. Lets do the field tests, and then come back to gloat but we all know that when that happens, TMo is dead last.

there is no truth. it is a survey of a couple thousand people. we want field tests! anybody can say whatever they want but back it up with in the field data. test calls and things of that nature. you obviously did not read my rebuttal post to you. jd power and associates rated a damn hyundai sonata higher than a honda accord. thats funny b/c the honda is more reliable and has a higher resale value than that car. nobody cares about a survey. we want field tests to sally jo or billy bobs opinion. see consumer reports "accurate" data please.
...
imcoolerthanyou

Mar 16, 2006, 1:31 PM
The hyundai analogy is somewhat invalid because of the extensiveness of the testing. What i mean by that is that T-mobile is dominating in many categories in many regions. The logic behind this is that the larger the sample or the more you test something, the more accurate your testing becomes. Hyundai didnt dominate everyting. T-mobile did

subscriber growth so slow? They had their best year yet!

"T-Mobile USA Inc. added 1.4 million customers in the fourth quarter, which ended Dec. 31, and 4.4 million for the year. At the end of December, the unit had 21.7 million customers, up 25 percent from 17.3 million the year before."

"The nation's fourth-largest carrier, T-Mobile USA, added 4.4 million subscribers in 2005, a record for the carrier, for a total of 21.7 million. That was a 25-percent annual increase in subscribers. "

"Cingular surprised many by adding 1.8 million subscribers (some analysts forecast 1 million) to finish with 54.1 million."

t-mobile = 1.4 last quarter
cingular = 1.8 last quarter.

Figures don't lie, but liars can figure. 🙄

Figures don't lie. Of course figures don't lie; math involves perfect logic. However this little phrase often reminds me to look twice at any statistical data that is shoved in front of my nose as "proof" of something. You see, statistical data can be gathered in any number of mischevious ways in order to slant the outcome. For instance:

Survey Guy Zero: Would you rather live near a forest filled with rodents and insects, or a new shopping center?

Survey Guy One: Would you rather preserve a natural habitat, or live near a dirty strip mall?

Both of these people will probably show up at the zoning board meeting with statistical data that strongly supports their point of view.

But...

"Figures don't lie", but you can twist and turn numbers. It's relatively easy to see, if you know what you're looking for. If you watched a commercial for www.freecreditreport.com Do they ever actually tell you that the credit report is free? No. Just because something seems great, doesn't mean they are. Just because T-Mo's "customer ratings" are great, doesn't mean that all customers like T-Mo. They could have been asking employees of T-Mo for all we know, it doesn't state anywhere.

T-Mobile has their devoted base of fanboys. But they also have high churn. They advertise that they are the low price leader, and yet their ARPU and average minutes of use are the same as the rest of the industry which means their minutes cost the same as the rest of the industry.
Coverage is an issue, especially the quality of coverage. You can be in the middle of a metro and have worse coverage than anyone else.
If your network and billing system are reliable then you shouldn't need to call customer service much at all.

Their data is dog slow. My EVDO phone would run circles around it as would my EDGE phone.
T-Mobile will have a hard time upgrading to 3g not to mention 4g.

Sorry, but I think JD Power and Associates got this on...

Depends on the class of EDGE. UMTS is awesome the voice and data support at the same time is great. This survey was based on customer's opinion not on any real research. Based on a few customer's opinions on wireless providers. All customers and carriers should understand the value of the opinion poll. No, this just means that people are willing to spend the same amount on a plan at T-Mobile as they would with Cingular or Verizon. $49 is $49. It's just that $49 at T-Mobile gets you a lot more minutes than it does at Cingular or Verizon.

I would say that is true, but I read somwhere else on the forums...T-Mobile or Verizon areas..that T-Mobile also has the larget turnover.

What that means in my view is that more ppl swith to T-Mobile or switch from T-Mobile more often than any other carrier.

So it may be the oppinions of brand new T-Mobile customers making these ratings...Those that haven't seen a reason to drop the great rates yet.

Especially since I also read that about the same number of ppl swtching to is switching back to other carriers. For the better coverage apparently. The only thing that would explain such a low customer base with such high turnover.

🤣 Its funny to see how many people hate on each and every carrier in the US. Cingular obviously can't please everyone and neither can any other carrier, they all just want to make money and really don't care if you love their service or not because if one person leaves another 3 will activate new lines. So if really go by reviews based on a limited research spectrum good for you but ask people on your own to make a good decision not puppets of the industry who get paid to say what the company wants them too.

By the way, I have T-Mobile and I love the service never had an issue plus the customer service is great.

Big deal,
T-Mobile also leads in arrogance (wrested from Verizon) dropped calls, blocked calls, network noise, etc.
According to Telephia they have the lowest rated network. Of course you are popular when you give everything away. It shows what you think it's worth.
Yes we dog the coverage issues. With a lack of credible coverage a wireless carrier is useless. T-Mobile is doing little to correct the coverage issues.
We'll give you your dues for customer service, good job. Now step up to the plate and offer 3G like a real tier 1 carrier. Alltel is ahead of you in that arena.
The inability to offer innovative services will kill you especially when you are the only GSM carrier left in America because everyone else has moved on.

Coervage wise NO. Customer service yes. It is impossible for tmobile to be better than cingular coverage wise because cingulars network is larger plain and simple. As for call quality that is definitely possible in certain areas. Who cares what JD, Telephia, Or consumers reports say. Find the best wireless company that suits your needs and stop listening to everyone elses opinion. Also if your network works great for you, sure go ahead and tell people you are pleased with your wireless company, but do go and bash on ppl for having one service or another.
