Ah,...time will tell.

I'm curious whether people will get acustomed to a device with only 1 button,...but like I said, time will tell.

I just can't get over that the iPhone came out June 29, 2007 and isn't 3G, golly!!!!!!!!!!!

Messed around with one last night...(I work for VZW, btw)

Folks that like Apple/iPod will love it.

Coolness factor: 100%

Folks that need/use PDA/etc, mediocre at best.

Usefullness factor: 40%

But it's a SUPER COOL Gadget!

Here's the short list:

1. Bluetooth is ONLY good for connecting a headset. That's it.

2. There is no file browser on the device at all. Data must be organized (if at all) in the appropriate application.

3. The camera is a simple application that has ONE button: the shutter. Pictures come out okay on the device, but nothing too fancy on a monitor, especially if it was an attempt at a macro shot.

4. SIM card is damn near impossible to open, if at all. I didn't look into it extensively.

5. Web browser is slow, even over WLAN. Even the simple OneList web app that was created takes around 20 seconds to load over WLAN. You can

Wow, very well written and insightful. I wish more reviews were written this well.

Have you had a chance to play with one yet, Plook?

No I haven't played with one yet and probably won't for a long time.

I typically am not an early adopter of new products like this and I'm not aware of anyone I know interested in buying it.

I'll wait until there is a larger selection of similar type devices with lower price tags.

Btw, I highlighted the MMS parts because Box was saying that it had MMS, but wasn't called MMS.

Dude...email and MMS are totally different. Please dont try and compare. Face it, the iPhone cant do MMS. But my Nokia N95 can, as well as do soooooooooooo much more than the iPhone.

Nokia...kickin azz and takin names (especially Apple's)

Well.. I dunno about that last line there.. The N95 is a very nice device and all... but I would guess that there are many many more iPhones than N95s out there in the US being used at the moment..

But I guess your right.. there are quite a few nokia models sold by the big 4 carriers so I guess you could say combined they sure are!

Maybe I'll pick one up to check it out.. I am a huge fan of Symbian and love flexibility and stability..And I hear FP1 improved the UI response but I am really really impressed at the UI of the iPhone, it makes me dread having to put my sim back in my N75, and I really love(d) the keypad on that and the browser I thought was far and away the best phone browser(aside from opera mobile)..

Yeah, I think the N95 is extremely, extremely attractive,. . .I just can't let myself spend $800 plus dollars on a mobile phone, that's just way, way too much.

I spend $500 on my Sharp V903,...so I'd have to say $500 is my cap when it comes to a mobile phone!

Not as an MMS message though.

I agree. Why would you release a cell phone that isn't capable of MMS? Why even put a camera on it then? Among all the other things it can't do...

You do know that there is an upper size limit on pictures sent via MMS? The crappy sub-mega-pixel camera in my phone has to be turned down if I want to send a MMS. I've been explaining to customers that they'll need to either email or use a cable to move that candid photo of Paris off of their phone. When most phones have 2-4 MP cameras we'll see MMS move next to web-cams.

montanaverizon

Jul 5, 2007, 6:22 PM
Of course I know there is a size limit for pictures. And I'm not saying they should take away the email capability for sending pictures. But most of the pictures I take on my phone I just want to send to someone else's phone. I'm not taking them because of the picture quality. I have a digital camera if I'm going for quality. I just think it's silly to have a camera phone without MMS capabilities.

If I remember correctly, most tech writers ripped on the RAZR when it launched as well - 50 million units later people are still buying them. Most consumers don't care about tech writers reviews - I personally love mine, and of all the people I have talked to, about 90% of the reviews are positive so far. Now that will probably go down after time and people have time to find things that they don't have/like with the phone.

All in all I think this phone is a great first shot for Apple, and with Apple's history, I only expect future devices to get better and better. Not only that, you're going to to see other manufacterers start producing devices that "break the mold" of standard cell phones as well.

That is exactly what I am excited about the iPhone for. Not that I want it personally but that it was push the other powerhouse manufacturers to innovate and "break the mold" as you put it of everything we are used to. Why the US falls behind every other country in this area still is beyond me though. How the UK is now getting a 5.2 megapixel camera and we are pushing how ecstatic we are to have 2.0. Just an easy example.
...
asiatic1982

Jul 2, 2007, 6:43 PM
I agree totally! All this is a kick in the pants to every other phone manufacterer out there, when 50 million people buy RAZR's, you know there's a problem... 😁

*sigh* Damn hype. I hate the RAZR. Always have, always will, even after having been given one for free. This world would be a better place if everyone stopped saying "ooooh, pretty" and buying a product based on that alone.

What kind of sick, twisted, pathetic loser derives pleasure from the percieved failure of a phone? Maybe you should get a hobby, or a pet.

Jul 3, 2007, 2:16 PM
Twisted? What the hell? What was so twisted about what I said? I am not deriving pleasure from it's failure, but merely pointing out the foolishness of all those people who waited in line for a PHONE. Did getting that phone on the first day or the first couple of days really enhance your life? Couldn't you have waited a couple of weeks until it was readily available and you didn't have to wait in line? Is your life really that meaningless that you have to have the phone right away just so that you can say that you were one of the first to buy it? And you say that I'm pathetic and a loser? Ha!
