VX4400 system services menu questions

by edamon    Nov 24, 2003, 4:50 AM

In the system services menu on the Vx4000 (0 off menu - password all zeros) - it has a force mode.

The options are:

Automatic
Cell Only
PCS Only
CDMA Only
Analog only

I understand what they all mean with the exception of "Cell Only".

I'd like to force the phone to only use digital signals (either verizons or sprints,
since we can apparently roam into their networks). Why? when I'm up in malibu the phone
jumps to analog mode, but I can't get a call out on analog even with 3 bars... whats funny is there is a digital signal out there.. shows up as 3 bars as well and I can actually dial out. However, once the phone jumps to analog, it doesn't switch back to digital till I'm back in santa monica.

Does the Cell Only = digital only - including cdma/pcs?

also, I bought this phone last feb 2003, is there any reason or need for me to update the firmware?

thanks
