Processor vs. RAM or Thunderbolt vs. Bionic

The HTC Thunderbolt is out and soon the Motorola DROID Bionic will release. While the specs are close with these two phones I'm on the fence on what might be the best.

The most noticable divider is the processor and RAM. The Thunderbolt has more RAM but the Bionic will have a duel-core processor.

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on these two. I know by the Bionic not being out yet it's hard to make a solid decision. In the end which ever works better will be the best in my opinion. And I've researched a bit on Processor vs. RAM and I still would like more input.

For those who may know a bit more about hardware like processors and RAM please share. I'd also like to hear from those who are current Motorola and HTC Android users...

Well not only does the dual core make the Bionic faster, but it will be using DDR2 computer RAM which is faster than standard cellphone RAM. From what I can tell, the Bionic will run faster, cooler, and use less battery. As you said, it is hard to get a good eval without having the Bionic in hand, but the TBolt is suffering from battery life and headphone issues right now. I, personally, have had no good experiences with HTC. It is also rumored that the Bionic will charge via induction out of the box where as the TBolt has to have a special back bought for it.

So you've had a bad experience with HTC, and I've had a bad experience with Motorola. 2 months after using the LG Ally I am very happy with LG. No problems with any of the hardware thus far, not the keyboard, not the charging port, not the touchscreen. Can't say that about the Motorola Droid though.

I had the Ally, and my fiance has it now. It's a great phone, only prob is not enough memory and processor is too slow.

Yep! Definetly not enough memory! A lot of smartphones don't have enough internal memory. It seems though the the newest ones coming out this year have a slightly better amount of memory. Itßll be interesting to see what kind of internal memory the newest smartphones have when I am due to upgrade at the end of November.

Well, how long do you have before you can upgrade? I was certain you were going to ditch Verizon. What happened?

There are 2 factores that go into my decision

1. Technological - I !!WANT!! that 700mhz LTE. There are a lot of places on the strip that have really poor to damn near no signal. Palms & Venetian are just 2 examples.

2. Budget - This is the first time in 18+ months that I am taking on a full budget. I really like this apartment. It has nice tile, very high cieling, too high for my 6ft2in selt to reach, good view of the mountains out my bathroom window, cable & wireless internet are included in my rent which btw is a very reasonable $450/mo, and it's located near the Stratosphere, lots of places to nearby. And I'm a very, very traditional person, I like stability.

Thing is though I have a roommate who sleeps behind my futon in the liv...

What HTC device did you have? If it was the Eris, I get it. I really dig the Dinc though. It's fast and smooth.

I am bias. I hated the razor and the Q. I can't stand calling Motorola's customer service/tech support. It's like pulling teeth talking to them. I won't get the Bionic even if it does the dishes.

I'm done with Motorola like a bad x-gf! ! !

I had the original Motorola Droid. Had problems with the keyboard, charging port, and touchscreen! A tad over 2 months with the LG Ally and no problems/complaints. I'm hoping LG will come out with a follow-up smartphone to the Ally with updated specs and LTE.

My wife refuses to let go of her Ally. She loves it. I just don't like the fact that it's too slow to play Angry Birds.

I love LG though. My old 8300 is still ticking. Probably better than my other old phones. I just wish LG would put out a high tier device, that competes with the Bionic and the Thunderbolt.

They are. Just not on Vzn. The LG G2x, it's a dual-core, HSPA+ smartphone launching on Tmo.

I hope they make a follo-up to the Ally with newer specs.

That would be a sweet device for sure. LG is a reliable product. I wasn't a fan of the VX9200 or the envy touch, but I would stand by any LG device that I sold.

I dig the HTC sense. It's pretty. But I'm going to wait until I qualify for an equipment discount, before I get the Thunderbolt.

I hope you didn't sell any VX8500s or VX8350s. Now that I think about it the VX4500s I swore by back in the day started coming back with issues. LG is a seducer. She gets you hooked and then the mask comes off.

I didn't think the Chocolate was too bad in comparison to the razor, but I see why you would mention it. The slider wasn't engineered very well.

The VX4500 was solid for a phone back then though. Those suckers wouldn't die. I have seen one survive getting completely submerged in water. We had to let it dry for a week or so.

I've been burned twice by Motorola and the *Bleeping* Q should count as twelve times. Once per FRU.

To each their own, but I have had no problems with my Motorolas, so I gotta go with the power and the speed of the Droid Bionic. I hope they don't let me down.

Doens't look like that is going to happen. While there is a small group out there that likes a physical keyboard, the majority prefer a completely touch interface. 4.3" screen and swype do away with the need for a keyboard as does the speek-to-text feature.

I still think 4.3 is toooo big for a cellphone! Though I'd be willing to go with the 4inches on the Samsubg Epic.

Whatever happened to *choice*?

Have you used 4.3? A lot of people think it is too big, but most like it after they use it. Additionally, most of the new 4G phones with the 4.3, don't seem to feel as big as the Droid X does. Just designed a little sleeker. And, if you are going to be without a physical keyboard, the 4.3 gives you bigger keys for bigger fingers.

See to me the thing about all touch smartphones is I like to be able to read what I'm typing while I'm typing it, and when an on screen keyboard is taking up nearly 2/3 of the screen there is less real estate to read what I'm typing as I'm typing it.
Plus, do on screen keyboards even have up/down/left/right arrows so it is easy to navigate to fix a typing error?
...

No they don't have the arrows, but its a touch screen, all you have to do is touch where you want to edit. Its way faster than using arrows to go back 20 characters, just to touch where you want the cursor. In my experience most people do prefer onscreen keyboards once they try them, but I am sure there are some out there that still would like to have a physical keyboard. They really should come out with another nice phone that has a keyboard, I still believe there is a big enough crowd out there that would be much more comfortable with a phone that has a keyboard. Heck I would kind of like to have one just for playing games if the phone was still thin enough.
