I have Verizon and am now eligible to upgrade.
If I were to do it now I would get the LG VX4500.

I am wondering if I should upgrade now or wait a little while (preferably no more than a month or so) for something new with the same basic features?
The features I am interested in are good reception, good audio quality, non-camera flip/clamshell phone with two displays (preferred, one OK), speakerphone and multiple vibrate and ring settings including vibrate then ring (although I will compromise on this as well since the 4500 doesn't have this).
Thank You

PS I really don't want/need a camera phone and am wondering whats up with practically all new phones being camera phones. Some places don't even allow camera phones and yet that seem...

I am in same situation. I have a Moto v60s. Although I think the phone is excellent, I am going to wait. I am waiting for another Moto. My father has the 710 and I don't like it. Earpiece too quiet and phone is a little too big for me.

I am ready to upgrade as well. But what phone are you waiting for? Any info on what's coming out soon?

That's what I'm wondering too
I know people can't give specifics but is there a VZW rep or someone who can give hints as to whether or not anything matching my description in my original post will be coming out real soon (good reception, good audio quality, non-camera flip/clamshell phone with two displays (preferred, one OK), speakerphone and multiple vibrate and ring settings including vibrate then ring (although I will compromise on this as well since the 4500 doesn't have this)). Basically a new LG VX4500.
Thanks

Specifically, I think just about everything in testing or the release hopper will have a camera on it. That's the trend. Here's the solution, though - don't use it. Enjoy the rest of the phone.

Everything else sounds dead on from what I've seen. It'll blow away the current crop in the store - perfect timing for those of us starting up in C.C. stores.

Your solution re. the camera doesn't work when you go to a place that doesn't allow camera phones or phones with cameras. Even the birthplace of all these gadget fads, Japan, has places that have banned these phones

Mostly for good reason, too. I know of several gadgets in store and coming soon that come as either a camera model or non-camera model, the PalmOne Treo 600 being one of them. In addition to perverts, it seems that corporate spies have had some success with them. The US government won't allow them in secure facilities, and I'm sure some state and local ones are doing the same.

In a way, this kind of proves my original point on this - no one is putting out the camera phones and hiding the regular high-end phones, the high-end phones just happen to come with cameras in them. The camera doesn't change the fact that the phone is the current high-end model. And as I said, you're not required to use it. Personally, I use it as reminders (...

I would get the 4500, who knows what's coming out in the next month. Even if we knew what's coming out, I would still get the 4500 due to it's proven reliability and user reviews.

You know what, forget it.
I am going to take your advice and just get the LG VX4500.
There have been a ton of threads related to what might be coming out in the future and there has not been a clear answer. Even if something comes out that matches the 4500 in features there is no gaurantee that it will have the same quality and I really could use the speakerphone in the car now.
I am off to the VZW store now.
Thanks

Hope you enjoy it. I've personally very much enjoyed my LG phones both the 6000, and just recently the 7000. I'd heartily recommend them as a manufacturer on a personal level.

4500 should be left in the dust in a month's time. Trust me.

Here's the answer to the camera phone saturation (and something to think about): the higher-end phones just happen to have cameras on them now. Don't think of them as camera phone, perse, but as phones with cameras in them. You'll find more and more from this point on that that's how they come - the cost of adding a cheap light sensing pad to the camera is negligible - it's the rest of the inerds that count. Heck, even cheap old Nokias are coming with cameras now - raises the cost a mere dollar or two, but ensures more sales to those looking for high-end phones OR camera phones.

As for the upgrade - I'd wait a month. I can't tell you what's coming out, but I assure you they will be very cool. Saw some of them today (they're so secure...

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I believe the VX 4500 DOES have a ring and vibrate option. I just pulled out my phone (which I've only had for a week so I am still learning) and one of the ringer options is "Vibrate and High" I'm not sure if this means it will vibrate and ring at the same time or vibrate then ring. I'm in a library now so don't really want to test it out! 🙂

Overall I've been very happy with my VX 4500. I was a little nervous about getting a digital only phone but so far I've found my digital reception to actually be stronger in some places than it was with my old StarTac and I personally haven't driven through a non-digital area in over a year. (though I still keep my star tac in the glove box for emergency 911 call ...

The Vibrate and High option is simultaneous.

My much older LG VX10 had more ringer and vibrate options.

I too am happy with the 4500. The reception is great and the speakerphone feature is really helpful.
