Healthnutz

I bought the Chocolate a few weeks ago, didn't buy insurance. Where I lifeguard, a friend pushed me in the pool when I wasn't working with ny phone in my pocket. I have a 1 year contract, so will she be paying the $199 price or some $500 price I've seen this phone retailed on other sites,

thanks

so it doesn't matter if I have a contract...even thoug I know I won't get the rebate...I still won't get it for like $200...

wow! Yeah, i'm probably gonna have a Verizon rep write something in black and white for that one...

1 discount per contract

THAT'S how it works

so...... get insurance 😉

That's correct, but actually the retail price is $359.99 from Verizon. The point of the contract is to get a discounted phone each time your up for renewal, not any time you need/want to, that's why insurance is available.

You would also be able to get 25% off the full retail cost due to the water damage, no insurance and not being eligible to upgrade..So if the full retail is $359.99 you could get it for $269.99 with 25% off.

Yes yearight, customers can get 25% off still.. Think they can only do it 1 x in 12 month period though.. Yep rep may have been in bad mood or the customer had already had the discount?! Who knows!

Update!!

I just plugged my phone into its charger and it's CHARGING..I turned it on and MADE A CALL. Clear as day and it sounds the same as well. However:

Make sure I'm still correct with this:

My 1 year warranty is now shot because my watermark has been changed to red, correct?
Which means if my phone freezes or stops vibrating with my last 2 Chocolates, there won't be any free returns.

What do you guys suggest? I know this isn't a pity forum...but ok, this will be over $400 after taxes and processing fees. Do previously wet phones ever just die...again...after they were good for a day? Any one have this problem before!?

Oh, and about the insurance, I can't get it what-so-ever b/c it's been over 15 days.

Well, it's kind of like a car that has been in a bad accident and bent the frame. Sure you can pull it straight..er but it'll never be the same as before.

A friend of mine dropped her Samsung in a glass of water and it would only vibrate when you put the battery in. She set it on the dryer for a day while doing laundry and it came back to life for a few months until she voluntarily bought a RAZR. Don't know the status of the Samsung now but it was fine the last time I saw it...

Water can do some strange things to a phone. When I took the charger out of the phone, it immediately shut-off...wouldn't turn back on. However, when putting the charger back in, the phone started charging again. Hopefully for my friends sake, the battery just shorted out and the phone will still be fine.

rule of thumb for water damage, is IMMEDIATELY remove the battery... dry out the phone as best u can with a fan, then DO NOT APPLY POWER OR BATTERY FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS! there are insulating materials in there that don't insulate when damp, so they need to fully dry out via evaporation/osmosis before you apply power...

Trust me on this, I made a washed palm pilot work...

ok, I'm not advocating insurance fraud, but I will say that when you sign up for the insurance they do make a test call to the phone itself to make sure it works. So as long as it's working when you have the test call done they'll usually let you sign up... I'm not telling you to sign up before it stops working...

As the corrosion gets worse due to ambient humidity, it will die earlier than it would had it been dry... the traces on the boards are so small that it doesn't take much to eat through... 35% or greater h202 has been said to revert the indicators, YMMV...

I can't believe that someone who works as a lifeguard and is surrounded by water on a daily basis wouldn't have bought insurance. Not your brightest moment eh?

Honestly, I know it sucks for your friend but you should make them buy you a new one. Aside from the fact it will probably not work like it should (sounds like it isn't anyhow) you have a year of contract where you need a working phone. If something goes wrong with that one you will be told youre SOL because of the water damage. It will cause you endless frustration. I know its not the nicest solution but maybe next time your friend will think twice before they do throwing people in the pool (isn't it a rule around pools no horseplay anyhow >.
