We can transfer your phone book for $10.

Customer: What do you mean its going to cost $10?

Me: The phone book transfer is a convenience that we provide to you and is not part of your monthly service. So we charge a convenience fee of $10 to transfer your phone book entries.

Customer: Well I didn't pay for it last time I got a phone, and my friend just got a new phone and she got her phone book transfered for free.

Me: I understand. Your friend may have been a merits customer and because of the amount of their monthly service they are entitled to a phone book transfer. We began charging for the service in January 2006 in part to cover the cost to maintain the software and equipment that transfers your phone book.

Sidenote: This customer is in a $34.99-300 minute pla...

Yep, she got a new 815 free after rebate but can't caugh up $10. I have this coversastion with customers almost daily. It gets old. I wish we'd get rid of the damn Cellbrite machines. It such a hassle to do the phone book transfers anyway. I hear there is going to be a way to backup contacts through the website sometime this fall.

Well custoemr, you can go to another carrier, pay more for a phone, pay an activation fee, and you will still need to pay to get your phonebook transfere 🤣
I just tell people the machines cost a crap load and if we don't charge people for it i get in trouble because they use that money for updating cables and software. I am indirect so they usually buy that.

well, it isn't like it is bs though, those crappy machines cost a ton, and they charge even more for the software when new phones come out. So it is kinda of funny, before we had the machine everyone bitched about not being able to transfer phonebook, now we have it and they bitch about paying for it. On the direct side I think they should include it in the upgrade processing fee, but then again with ne2 i don't think you can really bitch that much.

We don't have an upgrade processing fee. It is such a pain to even do the transfers. Nine times out of ten they won't transfer anyway. But if they are a merits customer they get the transfer for free. The only time we charge the ESN change fee is when they want to borrow an upgrade from one MTN and use it on another MTN. But the $20 ESN change fee includes the phone book transfer.

come on...

we all know that it is free if the rep decides to do it for free. So you can't really be that mad at customer for calling you out on it... but then again, the customer has no right to any such discount so he has no case.

but you have to appreciate his frustration, i think of it this way... sometimes a bartender's friend (or prefered customer) will get a free drink... but the guy next to him can't bitch that he doesn't get a free drink too...

I assume you mean that you're written up if you do NOT charge the $10. It the same at the 3 locations I'm in. Bottom line is customers have expected free phones, free accessories, free extras for years. Times have changed. We are not desperate for customers anymore. We don't have to give stuff away. The customer that I mentioned in the start of this thread is on a $34.99 price plan. It is actually costing VZW money to keep her as a customer. So that's why I didn't worry about her saying she is going to disco.

I have a hard time believing that VZW is not making money on the $34.99 price plan, Maybe not as much as they would like, but they make money on it, or they wouldn't offer the plan.

By the way way to make the customers feel wanted, "We're not desparate for customers anymore. We don't have to give stuff away."

I'm sure verizon would like to get rid of all of the old phones that don't support Vcast, so everyone has an opportunity to buy music videos, so offering a free phonebook transfer (which usually doesn't work anyway) on an upgrade isn't a bad idea...

It costs VZ an average of $17 a line to keep them maintained on the network. Not much profit if your on a $40 plan. This is also why they push those cheapskates on the old $12 plans to upgrade, cause VZ is actually losing money to keep those customers active.

we give you a free phone ever 2 years if you are on the 34.99 plan plus you get your service (which is the reason you pay the 34.99)

why cry about stuff? if you dont want to pay for transfers do it yourself or get backup assist and do it for cheaper, and coming soon it will be free to back up contacts on the website.

Are you kidding me? Great business model. It's when I hear crap like this that makes me wish that larger companies would go out of business. The customers are everything, and if this is the official VZW stance, then you guys need to pull your heads out of your asses.

Yes, if it's your time and you are on the company's bill, yes, you should charge for a service. However, I'm besides myself about the fact that VZW cripples BT making it difficult or even impossible for the end user to transfer contacts themselves.

So, IMO, stop bitching and go be a customer service company and GO BE HELPFUL TO YOUR CUSTOMERS

when you do ne2 do you have to give up your old phone or no? I've never been with verizon long enough to have a chance to do ne2. With verizon putting a legal ad in yesterday's paper about putting antennas on an electrical tower in my city maybe when service is launched I will switch back or if/when I get a job with verizon wireless I will go back with them.

My dad renewed his sprint contract and got a new MM-8300. They told him his PB was a free transfer, but it would be an hour wait for the tech (forget it). So we went to another sprint store, they said "we dont have a tech, so you can go to these stores *hand us a list* and get a transfer".. drove to another sprint store with a tech.. they said "Sure, we can go it right now, $15 please." forget it. Called original store to inquire about PB transfer another day, $15.. even though we just bought the phone hours ago. I ended up just doing it by hand.

Plus my dad got a card in the mail a week or two ago about phone buyback and I also noticed it checked off on the screen when he was getting his new phone. When my dad asked about it, the sales ...

I have no need to transfer my number or anything. But Verizon charges for that service?

That is just sad!! Seriously though do you charge your friends when they come over for coffee???

I have backup assistant so I don't are about the $10 but talk about Verizon being cheap.

Bro, those machines cost about $700 each, and the cables are $35 EACH! I just had to buy 2 new cables for the new LG adaptor (cable 90) and they sent me a bill for $70 PLUS shipping (an extra $5).

If the customer is buying a phone from me or doing an upgrade, or if they are even just a really good customer I will wave the fee. But if somebody just brings their phone in to have their phonebook transfered and they didnt buy the phone from me, your damn right they are getting charged.

as do I, for 90% of the customers. Insurance claims, warranty phones, online sales, all free. Let them know sprint charges $15 for the same thing, so they go "cool, verizon gives me free stuff" Only if they are being a'holes or they are some doctors thats make 250 grand a year, they can spare $10.
