We can transfer your phone book for $10.
Me: The phone book transfer is a convenience that we provide to you and is not part of your monthly service. So we charge a convenience fee of $10 to transfer your phone book entries.
Customer: Well I didn't pay for it last time I got a phone, and my friend just got a new phone and she got her phone book transfered for free.
Me: I understand. Your friend may have been a merits customer and because of the amount of their monthly service they are entitled to a phone book transfer. We began charging for the service in January 2006 in part to cover the cost to maintain the software and equipment that transfers your phone book.
Sidenote: This customer is in a $34.99-300 minute pla...

I just tell people the machines cost a crap load and if we don't charge people for it i get in trouble because they use that money for updating cables and software. I am indirect so they usually buy that.
we all know that it is free if the rep decides to do it for free. So you can't really be that mad at customer for calling you out on it... but then again, the customer has no right to any such discount so he has no case.
but you have to appreciate his frustration, i think of it this way... sometimes a bartender's friend (or prefered customer) will get a free drink... but the guy next to him can't bitch that he doesn't get a free drink too...

actually where i work that will get you a write up 👿 Not worth it.
I assume you mean that you're written up if you do NOT charge the $10. It the same at the 3 locations I'm in. Bottom line is customers have expected free phones, free accessories, free extras for years. Times have changed. We are not desperate for customers anymore. We don't have to give stuff away. The customer that I mentioned in the start of this thread is on a $34.99 price plan. It is actually costing VZW money to keep her as a customer. So that's why I didn't worry about her saying she is going to disco.
By the way way to make the customers feel wanted, "We're not desparate for customers anymore. We don't have to give stuff away."
I'm sure verizon would like to get rid of all of the old phones that don't support Vcast, so everyone has an opportunity to buy music videos, so offering a free phonebook transfer (which usually doesn't work anyway) on an upgrade isn't a bad idea...
why cry about stuff? if you dont want to pay for transfers do it yourself or get backup assist and do it for cheaper, and coming soon it will be free to back up contacts on the website.
We are not desperate for customers anymore. We don't have to give stuff away.
Are you kidding me? Great business model. It's when I hear crap like this that makes me wish that larger companies would go out of business. The customers are everything, and if this is the official VZW stance, then you guys need to pull your heads out of your asses.
Yes, if it's your time and you are on the company's bill, yes, you should charge for a service. However, I'm besides myself about the fact that VZW cripples BT making it difficult or even impossible for the end user to transfer contacts themselves.
So, IMO, stop bitching and go be a customer service company and GO BE HELPFUL TO YOUR CUSTOMERS
Plus my dad got a card in the mail a week or two ago about phone buyback and I also noticed it checked off on the screen when he was getting his new phone. When my dad asked about it, the sales ...

That is just sad!! Seriously though do you charge your friends when they come over for coffee???
I have backup assistant so I don't are about the $10 but talk about Verizon being cheap.
If the customer is buying a phone from me or doing an upgrade, or if they are even just a really good customer I will wave the fee. But if somebody just brings their phone in to have their phonebook transfered and they didnt buy the phone from me, your damn right they are getting charged.
