I think it depends on Carrier. Sanyo/Samsung for Sprint, Lg for Verizon, Nokia for Gsm. Motorola for Nextel(obviously, default victory)
I just know with Verizon the Lg products on a whole have far less returns and manufacturer issues down the line than the other manufacturers. They don't necassarily have the best reception in all cases, but they seem to hold up and are built very well.

I'm out in rural US, and the 6100 and 325 have been great with reception. The 6100 was a total piece of crap in all other standards though.

I had a ton of problems with the 6100. Recently, I've had a bunch of people coming in with the charging port missing. That's been with a lot of LG's all around though. That little metal piece falls out, and they're SOL.

my wife had a 6100 and it always dropped calls at our house, but my 8000,8100,razr, and 815 all worked great. I think it really depends on the area. I personally felt the 8000,8100 picked up better at my house because my razr and 815 will drop a call every now and then or will not ring in. I could also use vcast at my house with my lg phones but both my motos switch to 1x as soon as i connect. I have a friend that had a samsung 950 and it wouldn't work at all here. Reliability has to go to lg, i get an average of 30% return rate on motos. Lg is more aroound 10% when it comes to software and manufacturer defects.

Well...none of those would have worked anyway as the areas I'm talking about are analog only.

Samsung has worked great for me, and I'm on my second Samsung. My first was the a650, and my current one is the a930. I prefer tri-mode, but they're becoming harder to find, and Motorola wasn't a good brand for me. Motorola wasn't a good brand for my brother either. I had the 120c & my brother had the V265. For my mom, all she's owned have been Nokia phones (both with Cingular TDMA when they were Cellular One & with Verizon, and her current phone is the Nokia 6256i, and it works in many of the same areas that my Samsung a650 work. My brother has not had good luck reception wise with his LG VX4400, w...

When it works, the a650 works well. I had really good luck with the Motorola V120 series as well. The 265's were/are crap as well as any other Motorola with the same body style. The 4400's work really well in my area too. We have a lot of people come in saying, "Getting rid of that phone was the dumbest thing Verizon could have done." Obviously they're thinking about their own uses instead of on a nationwide scale, but you get the point...

the 265 was one of the worste phones ever made, I had a box of 20 and had to service every single one. I stopped selling them after that, then we received the 276 but not much better.

This may sound surprising but my Audiovox CDM-8910 does better for reception and service than the samsung a650, even though the Audiovox is all-digital and the Samsung is Tri-mode, but i got service w/ 1 bar with the Audiovox when the Samsung a650 said No Service.

Yeah, digital only phones will get a better digital signal than tri-mode phones will. That doesn't help you if there's only analog service available though.
