Cingular, my man.
...
Don't do it Ethel! There ain't no such animal. Cingular = to VZW??? Not a chance. Wait out just a little more time and VZW will have phones to blow you away. With Cingular & ATTWS merging, I can guarantee that it will be a nightmare. Cingular has not even rolled out their first level upgrade to the system (EDGE) and that is why they are buying ATTWS! Now I am not pushing ATTWS either cuz their CS leaves a lot to be desired... A LOT! VZW has been rated #1 in customer service & quality & network coverage. Bored? Well if you like calling CS to complain and not get anything done or resolved, then go to another carrier. At least you will not be bored. VZW also tests their handsets BEFORE offering them to the public. I know that ATTWS does not eve...

I'm still waiting for a phone that also does my laundry.
Just a little side note; VZW was rated #2 in customer service recently.
I don't think it would be a nightmare for tasselhawf, it's all dependant on where you live. Yes, it's true VZW has a lot more cell cites and each cite can handle more calls, but it sometimes doesn't work.
...
VZW does not dominate Cingular in POPs either. The two companies share about a 2% difference in coverage area. After the ATTWS buyout is completed, Cingular will have the largest wireless network in America.
...
For a short period of time...you will also have the largest customer base...but also not for very long
...
We didn't take on this deal for customer base, but its a nice perk. What we will be able to do postdeal is what you should be worried about.
...
I welcome the challenge...finally!!!
...
oh come on guys, stop sticking buy your companies like they're your best friend.
do keep in mind every single one of them only care about taking money from your pocket and putting it into theirs.
and thats just the bottom line fact.
...
As long as I keep getting a paycheck twice a month VZW is my bestest friend the whole wide world, if ya know what I mean
...
Maybe not. At the rate that Cingular/ATTWS is loosing customers vs. the rate that VZW is gaining customers, even Wall Street has doubts about who will really still be the largest carrier at the end of this year. VZW could still be #1.
...
actually neither at&t or Cingular LOST customers, they are just gaining customer at a much slower rate than VZW
...
Uh, excuse me, moron? Cingular was the FIRST carrier to deploy EDGE. We have a much LARGER EDGE coverage than ATTWS. Cingular tests their handets before release as stringently as VZW. You don't see people posting they've had 8 phones in two years on Cingular's forum, do you? Didn't think so. Blow us away? Christ, over 40,000 people bought into a 710 moto before you could get it out! Hope it flies, or that's a lot of pissed off people.
...
well....hmm....let's start off by making sure you know that Verizon is a CDMA carrier, not GSM. Now that that's out there (sorry if you already knew, just coverin bases) you have choices. The one you choose SHOULD be based on what's best in your area, not neccessarily who has the coolest phones.
If you're dead set on GSM then Cingular has both the largest network and the largest selection of handsets. Their plans are competitively priced and they generally have very good customer service. AT&T now has a GSM network in place as well...but they will soon merge with Cingular creating one big entity, so you'll have Cingular eventually either way. T-Mobile is steadily gaining a foothold in the U.S., but if you're in a rural area you may g...

what a scary thought 😲
...
notice the "if you're dead set on GSM" part
Sounds like this guy just wants bells and whistles, not a phone. 😡
...
Yeah. I'm aware that verizon is CDMA and Cingular/ATT/T-Mobile/Rest of the World is GSM. I really want a Sony Ericsson phone. And since Sprint quickly dropped the only S/E phone that ever supported CDMA, there isn't a choice to but to try GSM. I know CDMA is way better than GSM, but I'm a gadget freak. I guess I'll just have to trial Cingular / S/E and see how it is.
...
not gonna get into the CDMA v GSM debate, it's not worth it. But it sounds like you want more bells and whistles than a phone that works. I'll be the first to not take sides as I don't work for anyone (yet?) but I'll warn ya, if you go for the features first and the phone second you'll almost certainly be doin exactly what 85 and drama said.
Standin out in a crowd, and usin your phone for a paperweight.
...
Not true! Although as much as you wish it so.
You can have it all. Its not as simple as great coverage equals no features as you would like to believe. You can have both.
Maybe not in the deep woods of Minnesota or on uncle Alberts farm.....though!
...
If you choose Cingular, You will love thatSE T637 phone. BTW I have had one dropped call with Cingular so far..I don't know if it was me or the Sprint phone I was connected to. Iat will soon driving from LAS Vegas to St Louis. That will be telling, but according to the map I40 is covered all the way and all extended services available as well.
But I will say 2 out of 10 dropped calls is well worth the price and features of Cingular and GSM in general. Not to mention no roaming as well as M2M everywhere on the network, not just small patched here and there, oh but for $70 a month more I suppose I could get that with Verizon when EVDO comes around.

How are phones boring? You use them to make calls! I don't know about you but reliability is the most important factor in my cell phone- not what color it is or whatever gadget it has on it. Maybe you should try getting a girlfriend or something? 🙄
...
AMEN TO THAT!!!! 😁 I don't know about you guys, but my girlfriend is MUCH more fun than my phone. I dont' care if it DOES vibrate 🤣

Your girlfriend vibrates?!?!?!?!
😲

😉 depends on what I do. 🤣 I was talkin about the phone though....although that might have given me an idea about what to do with that old Nokia I've got layin around
...
I simply MUST interject here to make a few salient points.
1. Coverage is geographic, therefore one cannot make a general statement such as "and use your phone for a paperweight". The reliability of a carrier's signal is geographic as well. For example, in western Massachusetts, he could use his Verizon phone "as a paperweight" compared to Cingular's reliability.
2. What is wrong with a customer wanting reliable service AND a great phone? And why must a person who wants that be attacked with the reliability lines? If a company wasn't able to perform to the satisfaction of the majority of their customers, they would quickly cease to be.
...
I keep telling them there will be more and more sentiment like this. "Boring phones"
All they can say is it's a phone. all the other stuff does not matter. Well the alarm will be ringing loudly in Verizon's ears waking them up to their customer's chant:
"CAN YOU HEAR US NOW? Verizon?" We want more then a boring phone.
...
Wow that was a very informative posts...back up with published facts...wrong
...
When those facts are published, it will be too late, friend.
...
well if they aren't facts then why are you talking about them...you should know you gotta back your stuff up in here buddy
...
Sometimes vision is more important than facts.Bill Gates did not have facts that 50% of all people would want to own a PC. He claimed it though. He had vision. My vision is Verizon had better start pay attention to the few termites in the wood that supports their lofty ambitions.
As well I have seen a few posts from LT Verizon users here and a ton over at HF that indicate a tiny crack in the dam. They may be only ones posting, but Im sure they represent a sampling many users today and many more tomorrow.
Even JD Powers did not survey 45 million users to come up with their "facts" you guys spew about when selling Verizon
...
okay then Nostradamus, keep going with your visions and you'll end up in a luny bin...hehehe...believe me VZW is not blind as to what is going on in the world around them and you would be quite stupid to think that...we didn't just become #1 out of luck...we know what we're doing don't worry about that...as for a few complainers...what company doesn't have people that complain...
#1 that is from there only personal experience it isn't a nation wide thing
#2 I forgot #2 but it was going to be good...trust me
...
I know they are trying! They now have M2M albeit on a small network, There is talk of three year contracts. (mostly to try to buy time to stem off the tide) even they see may be coming while they come up to speed on the "bling bling" future customers and increasingly more current customer's are pleading for.
No they are not blind. But seemingly many VZ Sales reps are indeed blind and without the 'corporate vision." At least they act that way and speak as if Verizon is invincible.
And that's exactly what Cingular wants them to believe. Those little orange footsteps are getting closer. If they were not Verizon would not have to do anything and still gain and keep all their customers, which many here seem to think is gospel.
Verizon...

King, you are wearing the sh*t out of that orange footstep crap...come up with something new...pleeeeeease!!!!!

HEy you just may see that in their next advertising campaign 😉 after the merger.
Can you hear me now?

of course 50% of people want a PC because there is only one other choice out there....a Mac....thats like saying 50% of humans could be male hahahahahahaha

Okay, everybody sing! "Call me, don't be afraid you just call me, maybe it's late but just call me..." Just doing our bit to spread a little happiness around... **Uh, you DID put the phone onto "silent" profile, right? 'Cuz otherwise we're doing all this for nothin'** 🤭 😁 😲 😳
...
OK OK. I deserve to get flamed.
I mean I've got a nokia 3589i. It is a great phone. Great reception; very robust and reliable. I'm happy with verizon. I've never had any trouble with them. Blah blah blah.
Aren't any of you gadget people?
I'll probably just discover that Verizon is still way better and stay with them. Yada.
...
you're blah-ing out the good parts
we're all gadget people to a degree...what do you think drew us to wireless? But reliability is the most important part of any cool gadget. Why do you think most of the ultra-new, wicked-cool, phones in Japan never make it here.....not reliable.
...
I guess I've just had good luck with phones so far. (Other than I few LG-TM510s that died). 'Haven't really dealt with any crappy phones so I guess I don't know what I'm in for.
...
then you've had good luck my friend...hope it holds out for ya!
