Hey guys,
I currently have Cingular and was considering aout switching over.
What benefits would I get by switching over to Verizon because I'm pretty happy with my service, especially the rollover and the convenience of using my phone overseas.
Thanks,
...
spumJun 25, 2006, 5:36 PM
I wouldn't even worry about the ability to use your phone overseas. Prepaid phones (at least in Europe) are dirt cheap to buy and set up. The main benefits you're going to notice come from coverage and customer service. Verizon's customer service is way, way better than Cingular's. Their coverage is a lot better too. Cingular can't even say they get coverage coast to coast.

They can't? That's funny...because they do.
What are you getting at?
...
spumJun 26, 2006, 4:53 PM
Try to us your phone in my state. It won't work.
...
Hmmm, okay. Do you honestly think that Verizon offers service in all 50 states? Well they don't. I believe Oklahoma is one of the one's where a Verizon signal is pretty much non-existant.
Cingular covers 100 of the top 100 markets and is the only wireless company that does so. All of the majors cover around the same amount of POPs.
Verizon is no more "nationwide" than anybody else.
So again, what are you getting at?
...
Verizon may not have VZW towers in Oklahoma, but I know very well that it does work there!!! You are in Extended Service Area...but I tell you what--it's better than No Service Area!
...
Funny thing is...Cingular has a larger network network than Verizon, and certainly has more towers in operation than any company in the nation.
So how is it that in your opnion Verizon can make claim to being a nationwide carrier, but Cingular cannot? 😳
...
spumJun 27, 2006, 2:51 AM
Verizon doesn't have any towers in Oklahoma, but I can still make a phone call. You can't make a phone call from my state. You can't use your Cingular phone in all 50 states. That is my point.
...
Good Point.. Ruff is a Nice guy.. NOT
...
I live in NYC and friends who have Cingular can't wait till contract is over, service is that bad. They claim that they have "fewer drop calls' than any other carrier. Well if you cannot get conection you will have fewer drop calls. So they right in their commercials.
None of the carriers are perfect, but Verizon
is the best of the bunch.
...
WHAT IS YOUR ISSUE?!
Honestly, are you upset that you can't have Rollover or something? You read one post of mine and you decide to go back through my history and make a fool of yourself.
Get a life. Please.
...
im sorry.. i have a drinking prob.. and i have alot of rage built up inside.. had to take it somewhere.. 🤭

No-one has a better network in Okalhoma city than Cingular. No one!
...
Well in Tennessee Verizon kicks Cingy BUTT!!! 🤤 🤤

CDMA overall (including extended networks and roaming) has a larger footprint in the US than GSM. No one disputes the top 100 major metro areas, all the carriers have coverage there. But CDMA is what you want if you need rural coverage.

Mmmmya! And when was the last time you called or talked to a Cingular CSR?
"We can't say we have service coast to coast?" We have the Allover network. The fastest and largest ALL DIGITAL voice and data network in the US.
My question to yoony22 is: Why? If you are happy with Cingular then why switch to Vz??? It can't be their phones, is it? 'cause I'd be shocked.
...
troll 👿 Ok how about this... Verizon is the only carrier to offer in store technical support. try getting your phone swapped for a warranty replacement on the same day with cingular.
...
Fastest??? Since when is EDGE faster than Verizon's EVDO??? 😕
...
It is the fastest because wherever there's cingular service there's EDGE. Unfortunately Vz has EVDO in certain markets.
So, if you take your EVDO phone to a non- EVDO area any Cingular phone (with EDGE) will be faster than a EVDO phone. That's why we have the fastest network. Did I mention it's all digital?
...
did I mention this is a VERIZON forum.... If you want to tout you're company. Then do it in your own forum. 👿
...
Excuse me, but this is a Cingular Vs Verizon thread, isn't it? So, all the bickering is justified! 😉
...
yes, but as is the case with most of these long threads, the original question gets lost in all the "justifiable bickering" What benifits would the customer have in coming to Verizon, is the original question. They already have cingular and know how much they like their service. They just wanted to know what its like on this side of things.
...
I live in ATL and 3G is untouchable. yes it is not in every city yet but where talkin up to 700 downstream! and 3G and edge is interoperable so if you loose a 3G signal you instantly switch to EDGE wothout missing a beat. voice coverage might be better in rural areas but as far as data is concerned there is no contest. It all depends what and where you need service for
...
And I'm assuming that's on a UMTS device?
Any word on HSDPA speeds?
...
Funny cause Verizons 1X network is faster than EDGE data, and its vast... Evdo then kills EDGE side by side... EDGE isnt even a feture as far as I am concerned... thanks your phone is ringing...

1xRTT is faster than EDGE? Nooope, not a chance...

First off everybody VZW has 181 MAJOR metro areas covered in terms of Broadband speeds "EVDO".
2. EDGE is 70-135 Kbps with burst 200Kbps; 1xRTT is 60-80 Kbps w/ burst 144Kbps.

4. Cingular Q4 2005 Churn 2.1% "turnover rate" Verizon Q4 2005 Churn - 1.2% - Most loyal customers in industry.

1. True

3. True (except, I don't believe bursts are that high...are they?)
4. Why not use the most recent numbers? Cingular's churn rate was 1.8% and I believe Verizon's was 1% or something like it.
5. True
6. False. Cingular performs their own internal test drives as well. They are just as extensive as Verizon's...however they don't base claims off of their own testing. They leave that up to 3rd parties. Check out their company info on their website. The testing is described in detail.

The link to the original information that I was referring to seemed to have moved, however an excerpt from a recent press release gave a few more details.
Network Testing
Cingular diligently monitors the quality and coverage of its network. Across the nation technicians, and other third-parties, will drive test nearly 30 million miles of the network during the year to improve coverage and quality. That's the equivalent of more than 50 round trips to the moon to ensure customers receive the best possible wireless experience in the United States.http://cingular.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=press_rele ... »

The availability of EV-DO has nothing to do with the fact that it is still much faster than EDGE (even class 10)

Well, network integration is not complete. It is expected to be completly done by the end of 2007 and net adds bettwen the two are pretty darn close (now). What do you think is gonna happen after we achive our Gold network? Perhaps, am I the only one who see ahead in here? Perhaps not 🙄

perhaps you are forgetting that is a about a year and a half away? perhaps you are forgetting that verizon will not sit there but will be also enhancing and expanding our network coverage? perhaps you paid way to much for a crappy at&t company? perhaps you need to finally say what name your company is going to stick with for good? perhaps you are not all there? 😳 Your only response is well we aint complete yet. Well your company bought at& crappy t so just deal with. TGhen when it is the end of 07 then you can well we are done. And we will say well look where we are now. Till then oh well

I see the cingular trolls are here in force.
Cingular is a good company, as with all carriers their are pro's and cons. Cingular has rollover minutes and can roam in more countrys.
Verizon Wireless has better customer care, better customer satisfaction, a better/larger data network, a more reliable voice network, a better PDA phone line up, and a rapidly improving handset lineup.
Ultimatly it is up to you. If you have the VZ itch try it out for the 15 days while keeping your Cingular service active. If you are not satisfied cancel the VZW account and keep your cingular. If you are satisfied port your cingular number over to VZW.

Doesn't Sprint have more EV-DO markets than Vz? To be honest with you I don't know too much about Sprint. But I do remember seeing somewhere that Sprint has more EVDO markets than Vz. Is this true?

I believe so. Last time I checked I believe Sprint had EVDO coverage in 185 markets and Verizon had EVDO in only 160. Don't take that for fact though, as I may just be recalling mixed up info.

Seeing as how Cingy dosnt have any broadband I think you lose..

You're right, they don't. 🤨
Who said anything about Cingular and broadband anyway?

ya sprint does have evdo coverage in more markets then vzw. they have coverage for 150 million americans where as vzw has like 148 million.
he should probably go with sprint 🤣

Well even so, doesn't that make your statement false all around?
You say Verizon has the largest data network...
Yet you failed to specify that you were talking strictly EVDO and not 1xRTT where Cingular has everyone beat with EDGE. Then, you continue on to admit that Sprint covers more POPs with EVDO than Verizon does anyway.
Hmmm...

Well it sure doesn't look like the title is called "Lies I tell about Verizon." And me get so affected when somebody mentions Verizon? Not really. I have no problem with Verizon whatsoever. I have praised them many times before. Do I really have to go back and dig up all those posts? I'm sure you could do it yourself in a matter of a few minutes.
So anyway...it's okay to slip misinformation into a post as long as it has nothing to do with the topic? Sweet! 🙄

yeah Verizon can't actually say they have the largest network anymore, but they do have the best and most reliable.

what "lies" have i posted ruff? I was misquoted by myself in my first post when i said DATA network i meant 3g becuase thats what I think of when i think of data, 3g. this is 2006 afterall. i corrected myself on my second post after you pointed it out, so why is it that you have made 5 more posts after the fact still complaining about the same thing?
VZW has the better voice network, and the better data network(3G in alot more areas) then Cingular.
better?

oh my typically cingular rep still yelling about something. Well, if you are happy why are you thinking of switching. I just switched again from Verizon to Cingular and they both have had good coverage everywhere I have been. VZ does have high speed internet in more places but coverage should not be an issue with either. If you have a lot of friends who have Cingular, then remember about the free mobile-to-mobile. I did not take that into consideration when I switched and my phone bills with VZ where averaging 150 per month from 65 with Cingy. the same companys that make verizon's phones make phones for cingular, sprint, alltel, and tmobile (some exceptions obviously)
vzw doesnt add "random charges" why dont you elaborate for us.
vzw is number one in customer service in 5/6 regions and number 2 in the 6th. sorry that you had a negative experience but blanket statements are never accurate.
...
i think fone freek is just a cingy rep in hiding. or you are probably one of those people that you or your kids download something or do one of those texting services you see on tv and claim you did not do it. vzw does not add hidden charges. or are you thinking taxes or surcharges. hope not cause every company has this so get a life. as for info try vzw out for 15 days as listed above. i would say try the lgvx8300 has good audio quality and if not happy just return the phone in 15 days and just pay for the days of service and any usage you may have had. Good luck
...
yeah I love it when people come in and say "I never downloaded nothing!" I'm like "First, that was a double negative. Second, do you understand what download means?" "yeah! its when you send them messages to that there T.v." "well sir, sometimes that will show up in the download section of your bill, but how about ringtones?" "Yeah I got em" "well those count too. I see you have 85 different versions of Thank God I'm a Country Boy." "Yeah but those aren't downloads!" LOL I could go on and on.
...
Obviously they make phones for both companies, but most of their CDMA branches suck. not to mention CDMA sucks in general. I personally don't like it. I know it's still a realatively new technology, i just don't like it.
and as for random charges, one great example out of about 10-15 is one month when i had switched to cellular one and got the unlimited minutes plan "Stop Counting Your Minutes Plan" so i TURNED OFF my verizon phone COMPLETELY!! It was off for over a month and a half, well they said i went 700 minutes over my 2500 minutes. And there is no possible way that is true. So thanks to me being smart i walked out with my phone shut down with no early termination fee and it was only a year into a 2 year contract.
...
I've never been so happy to leave a store.....oh and when i mean off, i mean Powered Off, Nothing with my account.
...
omg cell one has the worst cust service/techs every. I used to have them took aphone in to be check out dropping some calls rep takes the battery off beat the phone on the desk about 10 times blows on it puts back on and hands it back. 😳 i could have beat the sh*t out of my phone and stayed home. Wow quality service there.
...
Despite the idiot trolls, there has been some good advice:
1. If you are happy, why switch?
2. Try Verizon for the free 15 days and compare.
3. They all have good and bad points.
All I can say is that I have had Verizon for the past 4 years and am very happy with them. I believe that we have had only 2 dropped calls in the past 6 months, but I can only remember 1 clearly. That one happened while we were driving in a remote area and left coverage. Before Verizon, we had AT&T and had dropped calls frequently. Yes, I know, that is a long time ago. We just got new phones and looked at Sprint and Cingular before we signed up for another 2 year agreement. For us, Verizon was the best. The others had some advantages, but Verizon won out....

Yes, it is cheap to get paid account overseas but you still have to provide a GSM phone. Not all GSM phones are cheap. I know this because my parents live over seas and I use an prepaid account while visiting them. Cingular is GSM and Verizon is not.
As for customer service I can't really comment on that.

I actually had something computer related with a Cingular phone in my house. Nothing to do with signal, but my girlfriend used to be on Cingular. Every time she had her phone in my room (it was the bluetooth blue-faced motorola that everybody has), the speakers on my computer would give a wicked feedback. When we figured out it was her phone that was causing it, she just turned it off every time she came over. I have no idea what would cause that except for maybe the phone trying to pull a signal that it couldn't get? Anyway...another reason not to get Cingular.

The only thing I can think of is that the speaker is picking up the frequency of your phone and reacting to it. With her phone, it was sort of a constant squeal if it was within like 6 feet of the computer.

It also depends what you are going to use Verizon for; if you want it for coverage then pick them, but for data or other things stay with Cingular.

Here's my advice...
Get what works the best at wherever you are the most often... maybe your home.
At my house, verizon barely works. I get disconnects, choppy reception and difficulty placing calls. It's so bad that I have to use an external antenna on the phone to get a signal at all. Meanwhile, cingular has perfect reception at my house. Unfortunatley, I am stuck with verizon for another year, but I'd be so happy to get out of it.
I can tell you one "hope" story about verizon. Last year, I went to upstate NY to go camping, and I was the only one of my friends who had any reception... I also had full reception.
Again, it depends where you're using your phone. Verizon seems to be better out in bumblef**k. But if you're in a major city ...

for the most part big cities should be good with verizon. prev post may have been due to a phone issue. terrain interferring with the signal, or the building may have done this also

Hey guys,
I currently have Cingular and was considering aout switching over.
What benefits would I get by switching over to Verizon because I'm pretty happy with my service, especially the rollover and the convenience of using my phone overseas.
Thanks,
First off everybody VZW has 181 MAJOR metro areas covered in terms of Broadband speeds "EVDO".

Doesn't anyone ever get tired of this crap, on carrier versus carrier?!
I use 2 different carriers all the time. Because none of the "carriers" are perfect!
So stop this feuding on who's better, nobody cares but tech freaks!

to yoony22, if you're happy with cingular then it would be good to stay with them unless they did sumthin that really ticked you off then change your provider, if cingular is satisfying all your needs as a cell phone company then its no need to change, and i dont care who says which network is the best, verizon and cingular are good in my opinion and there are more important things besides coverage as far as a network even tho i look at coverage as an important thing, i just get tired of people boasting a wireless company with "massive" coverage when basically they have a network that is digital and analog and the most of the network or at least in rural areas are backed up by an outdated analog network(to be fair cingular uses amps too) i l...

Actually, Cingular does not use AMPS. Not a single handset they sell supports analog and it has been so for at least a year now.
TDMA phones were the only phones to use AMPS. Cingular's GSM network is 100% digital, hence their "largest all-digital network in America" claims.
