"I WANT MY FREE BATTERY"

My third customer of the week that is asking for their "free yearly battery". The local Radio Shack tells them, "We don't handle Verizon anymore so we don't order batteries for the phones anymore." Then the customer expects VERIZON WIRELESS to give them the battery! LOL

Yeah, I love that. I also love how all the radioshack customers come in my store mad cuz they can't go there for verizon anymore. Why would you get a contract through radioshack... Everyone knows that they switch carriers every year and you're gonna be left out in the cold with them. 😛

Radioshack can still order the batteries.

And they dealt with Verizon for over 12 years. (Im 21 and they had Verizon in their stores, before it was Verizon, when I was 7.)

They contract for 10 years, and felt Now that Cingular is comparable, with similar rate plans plus rollover, that it would better serve their customers.

Plus, the phones work internationally. Something RS Customers were asking for.

They couldn't do that with Verizon. That and the last two years they had as a partnership, everything went to hell.

Verizon wouldn't ship phones to the stores selling them and started treating the teams like crap.

Verizon also did everything in their power to make the sales ppl look stupid by negating everything they say.

"So if i wanted out of contract will I have to pay an ETF?"

"Yes, $175 per line, if you don't return the phone within 14 days." -- RS Sales Associate

"No, just return the phone to a Verizon store and we won't charge you" -- Over the phone.

Only to hear the same thing I got from RS from the ppl at the VZW Stores.

Actually... what wasn't right was all the misinformation RS would give and the hundreds of thousands of dollars in re-rates VZW reps had to give to correct RS employee mistakes. Understandable that they are RS employess and not VZW employees, but what RS employees appeared to have a complete lack of knowledge which I would guess to be driven primarily by apathy. And VZW didn't send the phones to RS? Of course not. VZW doesn't supply phones to 3rd party (indirect) representatives. (Please someone correct me if I am wrong about that). That is why the prices can be different (usually less) in an indirect location.

Phones can be purchased from Verizon or from whoever the Indirect agent wants to...only problem, phones purchased through other outlets may not carry the same rebates and pricing that Verizon offers and the big thing is Verizon will not FRU (1 year warranty, verizon swaps phone for a differnt one) a phone not purchased through there "warehouse". Have seen this cause issues in the past.

I can buy my phones from multiple sources. If I purchased them directly from Verizon Wireless my cost is higher, but their DOA policy and the warranty options are better. For example, I can order a FRU for a customer if they bought a phone from me that I purchased from Verizon. If I purchased it elsewhere, they can still get a replacement, it just has to go to a retail store. I am half an hour from the retail store. I do get a mix of phones from different sources. My free phones I usually get from alternate sources. But I still would prefer getting a phone from Verizon so I can keep a customer in house. The less I send someone to another location the better... ;-)

just a clarification on that....since VZW has CDMA techology which is newer than the GSM that most international countries use. also, international cdma roaming is allowed in countries that have cdma technology. lastly, vzw does have devices that are cmda and gsm capable, allowing service internationally

Radio shacks are the scum of the earth. The reason vzw dumped them because they were so shady with everything they did. There employees were the worse with there own accounts. Doing non-legit upgrades on there own accounts. Flipping peoples plans and screwing them over to get a higher commision. Selling them B equipment and sending them to a vzw coporate store to get it replaced. Way to stand by there products. The list goes on and on.

man i think u said about everything radio shack sucked. been nice sinced they have gone. But why of why are we going to walmart. I know cheaper pricing. But we go from one piece of crap to another. I know they deserve a fair chance but think about it do you actually think walmart hires the top of the line sales rep for 6.00 to 6.30 an hr.

LOL...im just brutally honest and some people on here just can't take it. I tell it like I see it no need to make up stuff. It's funny how the truth about some things really offends people.

Most Radio Shack customers can barely read, and rarely leave their county. What possible use would they have for international roaming? Oh, perhaps it's for their kids that they're needlessly sending off to die in Iraq. Does Cingy have coverage in the Sunni triangle?

Come on there is no reason to make a comment like that about the war. There have been less people die in Iraq than in one day in WWII so come on "sending off to die in Iraq," they will have a greater chance of dieing in a car crash than over there.

vzw_achiever I am not tryong to attack you by any means I just do not think that saying that is fair to say, it may sem like everybody in Iraq is dieing but like I said we have more people die in cars than over there right now. Besides support the troops. 🙂

And I suppose him wanting them to be brought back home isn't supporting them? Keeping them over there is not supporting them.

Its funny how everyone interprets peoples lack of support for the war as lack of support for the troops. I have nothing but respect and admiration for our guys over there being put in harms way to protect our economic intrest in that region.

😕 I am confused. RS in the region I am in has flip flopped back and forth from GTE to Cellular One to Sprint and back to VZ just in the 7 years I have worked for the company I am with. I know as far as thread topic is concerned this is a moot point, but the fact that someone said that RS had a 10 year contract with VZ is off just for the simple fact that VZ wasn't even a company yet 12 years ago.

Radioshack signed a 5 year contract with Verizon. They ended the contract because Cingular has a GSM network, rollover minutes and a wider selection of phones. Also with the Sprint Nextel Merger they have more options to offer the customers.
As far as people who have Verizon phones, they can still order the batteries for them.

Verizon chose not to keep radioshack. They found multible complaints from the them via customers. Especially customers being lied to about new every 2.
