Why do reps at Verizon stores never know when phones are coming out?

Why do reps at Verizon stores never know when phones are coming out? Does Verizon like to keep secrets from them? I mean i walk into the store, i ask them about a phone coming out in the near future, and they 1)don't know what phone i'm talking about or 2)have no idea what the release date for me. Now i'm sure its not the reps fault, but damn it gets on my nerves.

The technical term is 'proprietary information'. Generally we only know when a phone is coming out once it arrives in a box. We will see information on a phone once its on our company website, but it has no launch date usually. Once training materials and information comes out it is usually within 30 days that it is available to the public. The bottom line is they don't like to commit to a firm day in case there is some last minute change to the phone of something like that. Better to not have a firm date than to say it will be released on an exact date and then look stupid. They also don't want the competition to know when it is coming out any sooner than the general public.

hmmmmm....would YOU want your competitor to know when you were going to release a potentially really cool product? i think not...so now you know that the reps are NOT lying. i hate it when people get pissed at me because i say i'm not sure when something is getting released. that's what sites like this are for....for product leaks, rumors, reviews and all that good stuff.

Because we get clowns that come in every day asking for exact dates and if you ever committ to something and maybe leak a bit of insight you get those same people calling the store and coming every day bothering us. Alot of the time we know we just don't tell people for competition reasons and annoyance reasons.

gee, i wonder why some of my customer's get a bad taste in their mouth when they stop at the corp store 🙄 I might not know the exact date but at leaste I will be respectful and tell you what I can when you stop in my store. Many of the times we are not really sure when phones are coming out because verizon is waiting to move old products, so sometimes we don't know until a week ahead. I stopped in the corp store down by me two weeks ago and asked if they had the 8300, the guy said what is that, is that the Q. Are you kidden me, at that point it had already been on Verizon's website, just not stocked at all locations yet since the 8100's were not all moved out 🙄 Man take a little pride in your job and at leaste know a little bit ab...

Wait this is coming from a reseller? You gotta be kidding me. I think the only reason your so helpful is because it was probally a new activation. God forbid a customer comes in your store with a problem with a phone that YOU guys sold them. You guys are really helpful then. Wanna talk about stock, stop selling refurbs or B equipment phones. Then we can stop worrying about moving some of our older equipment.

🤣 stop acting like you know me, we service the phones we sell, They can have our service dept do it, the can have us send it to manufacturer and we will give them a loaner, or we can do the fru program for them. Get a clue. I am not rude to my custoemrs and help them in all aspects and that is why they come back to me. Once again, I order my equipment from Verizon, as well as Duckbutter, crazyeagle, and many other agents on this forum that take pride in taking care of their customers. Just because you have some crack heads in your area doing shady crap doesn't mean anything. So if McDonalds gets sued because a store in New York had an employee add a special ingrediant in the secret sauce does that mean every Mcdonalds in the country is d...

Thats pretty funny out of about 15 resllers I have dealt with I've never seen anyone of them service the phones. News to me. You must be a super-reseller. I guess you never ever sell older phones either such as customer returns?

If we have returned equipment back within thirty days we get full refund for it so there is no need to resell used crap to people. As far as agents go you have people that sell everything( bestbuy, walmart, radio shack, billybob's phone hole etc) then their are some exclusive premeire agents out there that have sworn complete loyalty to verizon which in return gives us certain perks when it comes to purchasing phones, be involved in promotions, offering services that many resellers cannot like the fru program, we even offer our own insurance program that kicks the crap out of asurian. I have been doing this a long time and I don't need people coming back to yell at me, escpecially when there is no benefit in being shady to my customers.

Because I've been holding out over a week now to buy my phone from the store so I can help someone get some commission.

But if the reps are just being jerks about it, I'll just order from the website.

I honestly never know the release dates. I didn't even know that the 8300 was released until corp. emailed me and said they were available to order.

I know on the indirect side I might have a week before a phone is released to know about the release date. However, if I disclose this information Verizon Wireless could and would pull my dealership. So, it is not me being a jerk. It is me honoring my confidentiality disclosure between myself and Verizon Wireless...

exactly... i get all these people that are like "i was reading info on a website that showed a phone that was made for verizon, when are you going to get it?" or "its already selling on your website so can you sell me one right now" and my all time favorite is "when do you think you will get the slivr?".

Why is it so unreasonable for a customer to think that if a phone is for sale on the Verizon website then it would also be for sale at the Verizon store?

Most ppl don't know the SLVR is not CDMA and like olimonde said why is it shocking for someone to think that VZW would have the same phones online and at the stores??

They don't tell us when we can purchase new items or even if there are rebates coming out for new phones. Right now the VZW website is offering $100 rebate for the Q. I have no rebates in my store and when I call my reps they say they have no clue if and when.

It is called propriatery information. This info being leaked can definitely put the company at a competitve disadvantage in the industry. I hate it when some moron goes onto a site like this or howards and posts information about relaes dates of products and services. When it is time for info to be released PR and marketing will do so.

Its not just Verizon. I find out more info about new phones from PhoneScoop than I do from my company. We have had "ex" customers come in with phones we didn't know were available yet. It isn't the reps fault, they can't order the phones usually until the day they release them, even though the website will sell the phones in advance of the release date.

here's something to think about.... which would be worse a rep telling you a phones release date is tomorrow and it's not released for another month or a rep telling you they don't know the release date.

exactly...i work in technical support and sometimes even we do not find out that phones are to be released until the last minute. as stated, even if we know ahead of time a phone is going to be released, its proprietary (sp? lol) information so most we cant give that info if we do have it until we are told to do so

yes. And I believe that earlier in this thread someone mentioned that even if we could give that information prematurely (assuming we were given the info, which we aren't, but hypothetically) there would be threads on here about "Why did the rep give me XX date for the release of XX phone and now it isn't out? I am porting because this is ridiculous" and it would be a p*ssing match over the fact that we gave you a date and it got pushed back for reasons unknown, but probably technicality.

I am a rep from a store we know about phones at least 2 months ahead of other people such as phonescoop. now i can only speak for myself and the area i'm in which is in the NORTHEAST AREA. but by guidelines we follow (and get fired for) we can not talk about the phones ..... 😁 so next time a rep is telling you " i find out when you do" he or she is lying....i know cause i did if for the pink v3m razr back in may and plenty of other phones like the 8100 and the 8100m
