Loaner Phones
I recently read this in another thread.
At least 10 are people I didn't even sell. But I will "sell" them a used phone for 50 bucks, but give their 50 back to them when they come in a upgrade through me.
Is this a common practice in most indirects? I have never heard of it in my area at least. But it does clear up the confusion that we get in the store. Customers come in and think that they can just purchase a FRU for $50. Where are you guys getting 'loaner' phones? Please tell me that your not using the old used ones that customers give to you.

In our area a tech will sell a customer a FRU unit for 50 bucks IF they are out of warranty and the issue is a warranty related problem. If the problem is the phone is broken/lost/stolen etc then no 50.00 FRU.
Next question. I give free accessories or money off their phone purchase if they trade in their used phone. You said, "please tell me you are not using the old used ones that customer's give you". Why not? If a customer has 3 months until they are eligible for an upgrade, why force them to buy a phone at retail when in a few months they can get one alot cheaper? This is not a common practice. That is what seperates me from everyone else! To me it is something that goes above and beyond what anyone else would do.

some indirect channels actually purchase refurbished phones to use as loaners or buy back phones that are still in good shape from upgrading customers. my store has 5 samsung 850's a 6100, some older models like the lg4500,4400, and what not. If someone needs a phone serviced or are waiting for insurance replacement they can borrow these from us. We charge 100 bucks if the phone is not returned. If someone needs a phone this is just an extra servcice we offer for our customers. We can fru phones for custoemrs, but that takes a few days for them to receive them so it gives them something to use till then.

True! Just one of the many reasons that indirects are a valuable asset to the cellular industry!

Well I guess that's one thing the indirects have over the corporate stores.

That and not having to force features the customer doesn't want down their throats. Oh, and not being held to rediculous quotas, so we are not so stressed. Oh, and having the lowest churn rate...
