Alltel / Nation's largest wireless network

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Mar 01, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alltel (AT, Trade) today announced that its subsidiary, Western Wireless International Austria Corp., and T-Mobile Austria GmbH have agreed to extend their agreement related to the EUR 1.3 billion cash sale of tele.ring, Alltel's Austrian business, to T-Mobile. The new termination date of the purchase agreement has been extended to May 15, 2006. The closing of the transaction is subject to review by the European Commission and is expected to occur by mid-year 2006.

Sorry, wasn't clear. Alltel is basing their largest network claim on what?

I don't understand did Alletel buy out T-Mobile? Like not the towers but the buisness part of something?

They base the claim on Company owned and operated equipment.

A lot of Cingular and Verizon's network (towers) is not owned by the compnay, but paid for by the company.

And a good way to tell is check each companies prepaid map, that's a real good indication of what is company owned.

I think it's referring to when the martketed coverage was created...not the cell phone company. So it's comparing Alltel's coverage to, say, Verizon's most recent America's Choice map. That doesn't make much sense to me though because didn't Verizon and Alltel just agree to use each other's towers not too long ago...?
