A little history lesson we would do well to learn from
The year was 1997 and I was a direct business to business rep for a multi-regional carrier. The competition in the market was the largest carrier in the industry. They had size and technology on their side. We were analog and they were digital. Every time I called on a client it seemed that their rep was either right behind me or had just been there. Our rates were better but our best phones had only 36 hours of standby compared to 100 for the big boy. Our coverage was better but the only people who really cared were the county employees and some loggers. When I got a client to switch, the big boy threw whatever they wanted at them.

Well said and I think is about time somebody addressed this issue. I presently have Sprint and I've had them and my same cellphone for 4yrs(Sanyo4500) Well my contract is up in 2 weeks and so I decided its time to upgrade my phone. I went to a Radio-shack and the rep told me that I could upgrade and that to do so I would have the mail-in rebate option and that only new customers have instant-rebate option. Well I didn't think that made alot of sense so I called Sprint and the customer service rep told me "No" I'm eligible for the instant rebate option and to go to a Sprint store which I did and the rep in the store told me that "NO" I only have the mail-in rebate option. First off let me say that I believe "Big-poppa" is a FORMER SPCS employee, I think I saw a post that he was "given the option to leave the company", so he doesn't speak for the company. Secondly, in Dealer stores such as Radio Shack and others, the offers are not always the same as in company stores. working for a dealer that sells SPCS and VZW I run into customers everyday that want to upgrade their phone, some purchase the phone at retail and use the mail-in rebate and are happy, because they remember when the phone that they first had cost them 150-300 dollars and got no rebate, other customers choose to port to VZW because staying with SPCS has no value, i.e. they don't utilize the data services available, don't care about the type...
