Dude I feel for you. But, I live in Ann Arbor, have verizon on my now 2-years-old Kyocera 3035 and get GREAT reception. I can go down to Toledo, Cedar Point, Up to Tawas and I'm never even roaming. You must need to change a phone setting or adjust your home area or something because coverage in Southeast Michigan is tight.

You might want to consider a tri-mode phone, if that doesn't fix the problem, then call Verizon Wireless and explain that you are not getting any reception where you live. They will investigate it and offer you a solution. You won't be stuck paying a $175 cancellation fee based solely on the fact that you can't receive reception where you live.

No, no, no.

"Tight" is Good. I meant Verizon has their business locked down in my area. As noted by the fact that I can go down to Ohio or up to Northern Michigan and never lose service or be roaming.

Like we said, you should have checked out service in your area BEFORE you signed any contract. SO...suck it up.

To say "suck it up" is more than a little insensitive. Verizon is a very classy organization and wants to help. Probably a tri-mode phone would be the best solution. Be wary of the phones with a stub antenna such as the V60 series. An extendable antenna is best in marginal reception areas. Some phones to consider would be the LG VX4400 or the Audiovox 8600. They seem to do very well in reception challenged areas.

Except that the Audiovox 8600 is a piece o' crap in every other way... go with the 8900.

Thats because Tawas City is covered by Alltel I belive. You use thier towers in that area, not even covered by Verizon Wireless.

LG6000-

Sad to say, but most contracts state that the carrier does not guarantee service. Not trying to start anything with you, but this is why time and time again you will hear it said on this forum... Get the service that works best in your area. Check with your friends who use wireless, have the rep check out the areas you travel to or will be using your phone in most often... in short, do your homework. NO CARRIER is perfect.

Also, if you get bad service. Call your service provider and ask what you can do to improve service. calling *228 and chosing 'update roaming capabilities' about ever 3 months does the trick most of the time. Also be sure to reboot your phone by removing the battery for about 4 seconds whenever you have any trouble with the phone. These 2 things fix most problems, if it doesn't work, you may need a new carrier that has service in your area.

Like he said...just have them look into the area...when you call tell the rep to call tech support and file a ticket for your area...if you have to lie, then lie...say that you and your friends all had good service but now for about a month it has gone down hill. if they file a ticket and find that it is a marginal coverage area or bad area...you should get the ETF waived.

I hate to here people doing this kind of stuff. You signed the contract, you had 15 days to try the phone and make sure it worked where you live, work and play. If you did not make sure of that in the first 15 days that is not anyone's fault but your own. Keep the service and deal with it or cancel and pay the ETF. Why should any carrier waive any fee for your incompetence.

Only because you didn't check out the service beforehand.

my question to you is if the service was so poor, then why didn't you switch carriers when your contract was up 4 and a half years ago? 😕

Genius, I don't care if they sent a bikini-clad female representative out to your home to let you try every phone they offered in 2001. The fact remains that you didn't check out the service (with friends, relatives, message boards etc...) beforehand. Suck it up.

Ok here is what I do not understand.

If you signed with VZW in 2001 then why do you have VZW service if it is so bad for you? The MOST you can sign up for is a two-year agreement. By 2003 you became a customer at will. Now if you received an upgrade (new phone at a reduced price) then you re-signed for a 1 or 2 year agreement.

ALSO with your upgrade you still get 15 DAYS TO TRY IT OUT. You had the time to test the phone and you kept the service. I'm sorry but this is 100% your fault at this point.

VZW, Cingular, T-Mobile, SprintPCS, Nextel et all cannot just slap up towers anywhere they want. They have to BUY the spectrum (or airwave bandwith) from the FCC. THEN the company has to PAY people to put a tower there. I believe the estim...

Firstly, He shouldn't have to "suck it up" simply because he signed a contract. There are other ways to handle this. Albeit that the NEWFOR2 & 15-day policy (many areas were actually 30 days at the time) DID exist in 2001, this should have been ample time to get an idea of how service works in the area you would most use it in.

Secondly, the service was started nearly four years ago and you shouldn't be under a contract now. If you want to bring up the argument that you may have changed price plans and were extended for doing so, simply remember that taking a price plan WITHOUT a new promo will NOT extend a contract.

Third, legal regulations stipulate that if a wireless carrier does not have a liscense to operate in the primary place ...
