So, I got the Samsung a970 and???????

SForsyth01

I think I am VERY dissatisfied with this phone. I am coming from the vx8100 (which had the volume bug that drove me nuts), and I am amazed at the things that I think are lacking on this phone. Now, I am going to say that I have only had the 970 for 1 day, so I may be missing something, but here goes:

1. I cannot find a way to save words into predictive text. Is there a way, or is this just missing on the phone????

2. THE PHONE DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO SEND TEXTS OF OVER 160 CHARACTERS (known as EMS)!!!! C'mon, I have to be missing a setting here, don't I??? Or is this glaring issue just overlooked????

3. The outer screen SUCKS!!!!

I am honestly thinking of returning this phone and getting the LG 9800. I don't want to have to...

Sorry, it just doesn't sound like you'll be happy with your 970, so I just threw it out there.

Check Manuals In Motion on the VZW website for that phone. That may point you in the right direction.

All cellphone cameras are sh*t.

I must say that the camera on the 970 is nothing short of amazing. Especially with the optical zoom. My only issue is that I text message with my phone more than I do anything. And I don't understand why a company would not put the EMS capability on the phone. And the standard UI for Verizon just kills this phone (and I have loved that UI since it came out). The Sprint version of the 970 is lightning quick, the 970 itself is very sluggish.

Yeah, but if I exchange the 970 for the 9800, and I don't like the 9800, I'm stuck with it because it is a one time exchange. That is why I haven't decided to make the switch already.

For camera phone people, I would recommend the a970. For Texting and email/business users, the 9800.

For kids and entry users, the 8100 and/or the a950 because there is not much difference between them.

I wouldn't recommend the Moto to my worst enemy. The software locks up way too much for anyone to know if it is a good phone or not.

The camera on the 9800 is 1.3 mp so its gonna be like the 8000 and as far as t9 i beleive you can save text! however, remeber the 9800 is a little different than the 970 its main functions are txt msging and wireless sync emails. The 970 is for photo takers! Sf 2 of our reps have the 9800 and they both love it the one had the 970 for a week and say's it a pos.

you can use the t9 and save words to it but why, it has a full keyboard, quewrt style so txt while its fliped open. the camera is much better, the 8000 has a what 900k to 1.1megapix, the 9800 is 1.3. the camera also has some realy neat features. you can take a pic of a bussness card and add that info to your contacts with just a few clicks.

I don't know how you compare the two, they're totally different phones. I was able to demo the 9800 for a couple of weeks a few months back. If your primary function is email/text, good phone for you. Camera okay. Seems to me, if you're so interested in the camera function, that you'd buy one of the really small cameras and get yourself a good phone, one where you could make the choice based on the attributes of the phone and not the built in camera.

Because of the contact manager and scheduler in the S710a. I can't give that up. It is amazing and second to none.

I love it other than the lack of EMS and inability to save words to predictive text. I can deal with the outer screen because that isn't my main screen anyway (except reading texts on the outer screen is a pain). But, since texting is what I do most on my phone, I am thinking that the lack of EMS and the predictive text issue just ...

Email from my phone is not really necessary at all. The only thing I do with email on my phone is have my gmail account forwarded to a hotmail account so I can get it on my phone via mobile web. But, now that I think about it, it might be nice to have my gmail on my phone. Why???

But, it is not essential to my life or job in any way.

You really have to decide what is most important for you. I have the 970 and really enjoy it. There are some things that I don't like (ie the slow menus, not being able to add words to the T9, the slow menus) but those are things I can live with. I was really debating between the 9800 and the 970 for a long time, and I have played extensively with both phones here at my store, and I went with the 970. I don't like the candy bar styled phones, and I also don't like the size. I'm not a big sender of texts, and I can text faster with T9 then a qwerty keyboard anyday. Every phone is going to have something you don't like about it, you just have to decide if you can live with that or not. You said earlier that call quality and a good camera is ke...

Yeah, Yeah, I know. But I'm tired of searching for it. Is it too much to ask for a phone that has the outer screen of an LG, has Texting functions of the LG (adding words to T9 and EMS) and has a 2MP camera like the Samsung????? 🤣 🤣

before i owned the v551, se s710a. i owned the nokia 3300 which has qwerty. trust me u get used to it real quick. i never wanted to go back. t9 is like childs play after you experience qwerty. now my 3300 let me use qwerty for EVERYTHING, not sure about the 9800. so that maybe just me who liked it that much but qwerty for text'ers is the way to go. trust me. if nokia decides to produce an upgrage to the 3300 i will drop my other phones like a fat guy does his remote after a twinkie. 😁 🤣

my only dislike about the 3300 was gaming with the keypad setup and the keypad didn't light up. but if you have balls to get a qwerty keypad phone you need to know your way around a keyboard.

Actually, I think the OS works GREAT on LG phones. I am interested to see how it works on Motorola's, but anything has to be better than what they had. But, there is one thing I know for sure -- Samsung had GREAT OS's prior to this standard one, and Verizon needs to allow them to go back to them. Either that or find a better way to implement it on a Samsung.
