I have 5 lines with Cingular at the moment. They are all out of contract. I was looking into porting them over to verizonwireless. Can anyone tell me what kind of deposit levels there are? With cinglar 2.5 years ago I would have had a $300 per line but as a employee they waived them . My credit is so so. Just checking before making the trip down to my local store and waiting in linethere. wanted to get a feel to see if i will be shocked. thank you in advance

I have heard so many horror stories about the $$ that VZW charges for deposit (like $1000). And I work for VZW. Good luck there sir. Although I have also heard that in certain markets the deposit is capped at $300 - $400. I guess it will depend on if you are lucky enough to live in the right place.

I think the max is $400 per line.

It really depends where you live. Here in the Utah it is capped at $400, and you should see how people react to that. I can only imagine if I told a customer they had a $1000 deposit. 🙂

At first mine was $1000 but the rep didn't feel that was fair, so he fought to have it lowered to $100. So, it's all in who the rep is. But once you pay a deposit on the primary line, you don't have to pay a deposit on the Add-a-lines. I have 3 lines and I didn't have to pay a deposit on them. With VZW, if you pay on time every month for 6 consecutive months, after 1 year you get your money back.

your rep was special 😉 i don't know how he got that done. a few questions.

1) was it in-store or over the phone?

2) what year did this happen for you?

3) did you have bad or no-credit at the time?

i know its wrong to ask a woman (assuming you are a woman by you name). but,
4) how old where you at the time this happened to you?

5) was this the 1st post-paid (contract) phone you have ever gotten?

please do respond.

i'd just like to know.

I would like to know also. The deposit tiers are set by the cellular company. Deposits also are PER line. That means if you have a family share with 4 lines and are a 400 dollar deposit, you pay 1600.00 Now, if you get just one line and maintain good payment history for a year, then usually you can add lines without a deposit. Deposits are not refunded after one year...they are refunded after 12 consecutive ON TIME payments. If you have a balance of any kind it is first applied to that and then a difference check is mailed back.

A rep doesn't set the deposit terms. They would have to contact credit and activations. I gave up a long time ago on trying to get the amount reduced. It is preset by whatever qualifing factors that Ver...

deposits are refunded after one year. and that's the 1st year of your wireless service. the t's & a's change without notice so check them from time to time. if you miss a payment or are late on one the refund you get back will be lower. if service is disconnected for ANY reason, then WHEN or IF it is re-established your 12 month term will CONTINUE from that point.
btw if you don't call for a check you won't get it they will put a credit on your account for the amount of deposit if you don't request it in a certain amount of time.

In the NW Indiana area, Cingular & Nextel requires $500 per phone for a deposit if your credit isn't that great. Verizon Wireless requires $400 per phone. I don't know about Sprint or US Cellular, the other carriers in my area. I hear in my area, T-Mobile rarely requires deposits to get service, even for someone who's about to file bankruptcy. I was fortunate I didn't have to put down a deposit when I got my Verizon Wireless service in March 2002. If I were to try and get service today, I would need the deposit.

I think they only really give you the max if it is a previous write off with another company cuz I they slant very heavily on these situations.

i would say $125.00 to none with 3 of 4 star credit.

$250.00 per line with 2 of 4 star credit.

$400.00 per line with 1 of 4 star credit.

there was a thread in this forum that said something about g-units which are folks that needed a $1000.00 deposit to get a line. but that has never happened to me. 😁

i did have a guy admitted he had REALLY, I MEAN REALLY bad credit so when i ran an app on him it didn't even give a deposit amount, IT SENT ME STRAIGHT INTO ACTIVATING A PRE-PAY ACCOUNT. 🤣 🤣 that was funny.

(the star ratings are my own)

Worst case scenario here in MN...$400 per line. I've seen people who think their credit is shot actually have no deposit while others who think they have great credit have the $400 per line deposit. Good luck!

I think it was half way a joke. We usually learn from our parents. If your parents couldn't manage their money then most of the time the kids won't either.

your social......when you pull credit not only does your report come up but so does your parents behind it. if you still don't believe me call one of the credit beureaus yourself. believe me, if you only make lets say, $8.00 dollars an hour with no credit and your parents both make $11.00 dollars an hour with 1-2 car notes and pay late 3 or more times and have medical bill's and deliquent cable and utility bill's, then are chances when you apply for anything that involves credit you will need a co-signer with good credit, pay a deposit, or have time on your job 6 months or more and have applied for credit a few times already.

btw a bankruptcy clean up doesn't hurt your credit that much the collector's in the end are more than likely paid...

for those who even care:

the best way to establish credit for yourself is a JOB. YES! if you have NO credit and need credit get a job and keep it for six months your tax i.d.# (social with a few numbers added) will become a form or credit for you. NOW THE LEVEL OF MONEY YOU MAKE IS THE CREDIT CLASS YOU WILL BE PLACED IN. so if your trying to get a benz or jag sorry a SUBWAY sandwhich artist position isn't gonna help you much there.

I am no credit specialist but before my cellular days i worked in credit, tax, and utility, collections and have had daily conversations with folks a EQUIFAX, TRANSUNION also a few talks with people at the other two bureaus. (our agency didn't really report to them much often. i only talked to them when the...

I work in the Credit Review department in the Midwest region.

Midwest Region Info ONLY!
$0
$125
$400

The $400 is whether u have bad credit or no credit.

For someone to get the deposit changed is EXTREMELY unlikely. Not going to say it would NEVER happen, but I definitely wouldn't get my hopes up for that.

We don't just CHOOSE what deposit we want to give you. It is a specific guideline, and to override that would be a definite risk on my job.

After 6 months of service we do base it on your existing account, but anytime before that it would be the same deposit per line. And if you have had suspensions or NSFs or anything negative it could change your deposit from what it originally was.
