OK Dumping Cingular ------have some questions.

Been shopping Verizon and Sprint and have some questions for you guys.

ON the web site they offered me an E815 for $150 -50rb and a free Samsung and 60.00 in activation fees.

Radio Schack offered me the E815 for $100 a free Moto 256 and some accesories and no activation fees on a $69 family plan

What am I missing here?

I have not been to a Verizon store but Im guessing it will be much more expensive to get in as web deals are usually better. Have not looked at Amazon yet.

Radioshack is not going to be carrying Verizon Wireless soon. They are liquidating their stock. Keep in mind that any phone you buy from RS is actually RadioShack property. I don't know how well the tech guys in the direct stores will handle a RS phone. I know how they handle a phone a customer bought from my IDA and I am assuming that is the same way with RS.

Also I don't know how Radio Shack is advertising "no activation fees". That is not their decision. The sales store does NOT charge activation fees. That is from the billing department of Verizon Wireless.

You are absolutetly correct. I've had problems with that in the past, which is another reason I am glad we are dumping Radio Shack. I can't tell you how many times that I have an irate customer call because they get activation fees on their first bill after they were told by Radio Shack that there is no activation fee. They try to make it sound like they will not be charged one at all, when in reality, they are merely saying that RS doesn't charge an activation fee... Very misleading and VERY poor business.

Second, I wouldn't worry about buying a phone from RS due to the fact that they will not carry VZW anymore. Anyone who has recently activated service at RS will not be left in the dark, and we will service those customer's phone i...

Anyone who has recently activated service at RS will not be left in the dark, and we will service those customer's phone in our VZW store locations once we have gotten rid of the Big Red Monster FOR GOOD!

Thats what I was thinking. I was hoping someone would confirm that without prodding. It makes sense that Verizon would take over the RS support on all levels as if you bought from Verizon directly. I don't understand the duplicity though.

If you get a phone from someone else Verizon will not support that phone. They are in the servic...

It's not that Verizon doesn't support phones that are not purchased from a communication store. It's more an issue with the replacment of the phone, not the repair. As I posted on another thread, VZW will have no problem servicing the phone, it is only a problem of replacing the phone due to warranty issues when we don't have any idea what kind of warranty the phone actually has (the warranty agreed upon with the seperate contract you sign with the indirect location).

IF you buy an extended warranty from Verizon I don't see the issue. Without one the manufacturer not Verizon would be the focal point for warranty issues.

Verizon doesn't sell an extended warranty that must be paid up front. If you buy their insurance that is another story.

Not true. Getting the extended warranty is another issue. That does allow for us to service the phone after the orignal warranty has expired. You can either purchase the stand alone extended warranty for $1.99/month or you could purchase the insurance/extended warranty together for $5.99/month.

Ok, like I said, they don't have something to be paid UPFRONT (like Best Buy and Radio Shack). They offer the insurance or warranty on a monthly basis.

Go back to your Cingular world they need you. You have no business here and don't know anything about Verizon. Neither do your bosses apparently or they would not have received an embarrassing asskicking from Verizon in new activations.

It's pretty clear Cingular will go from 1st to last in record time and for good reason.

Learn from these guys. Don't be so bitter man.

Be careful how you word things. Cingular, by no means whatsoever, was weak on their new activations last quarter. They added over 4.1 million new customers that quarter (gross adds). What killed their numbers was their churn, leaving them with under 900,000 additional customers (net adds).

4.1+ million customers is a lot. Something I'm not sure even Verizon has done.

That's all good and well but the real bottom line is that churn has been considerably lower quarter after quarter than either Cingular or AT&T could ever boast as seperate companies.

Cingular has refocused their attention on getting the network integrated and upgraded and as that is completed they can re-launch a national campaign touting their improvements. Make no mistake thinking that they aren't working on other aspects of their business though. They are making great strides in the improvement of their customer service, they've recently refined their Cingular Service Summary program for new customers, and have implemented an improved billing system. Once they've gotten through the "growing pains" of the merger over the next few mon...

Verizon is not great everywhere, I know that. But right now in South Carolina Cingular and Suncom GSM service is terrible. I came from Cal where Cingualar was good enough. I cannot continue to pay for what's comming. In a year or two (as I do prefer their phones, flexibility, and BT implimentation) will revist Cingular and see if they did indeed improve.

For now I need reliable service at the expense of great phones and flexibility.

T.M., I also agree with mekong77...I had a horrible experience at RS when I purchased a phone, I would say 3-phones ago. They sold me a faulty phone and would not exchange or replace it! The guy at RS basically told me to my face "too bad", and when I then asked him to re-activate my old phone and take back the faulty one...they were going to charge me a $35 "re-stock fee!!" So I went to a regular corporate VZW store, and they took back the bad phone I purchased at RS (they didn't have to do that...but they did!), and gave me a brand new, not re-conditioned...a brand new phone! Further more, the rep at VZW apologized for my experience at RS, which again they didn't have to do. From then on I told myself that I would never purchase a pho...

Yeah I getting that drift and decided to go to the Verizon store,

Now if I can get those pesky MP3 ringtones to a new phone. Can one download their own ringtones somehow into a phone. I only have around 12 of them, The cost factor is not an issue as long as I can get them to the phone. Which phone do many reccomend coming from an MPx220 Smart phone. (I don't need the MS software)or a smart phone. Cost is not an issue. Some of the features would be nice

1. MP3 ringtones (mine)
2. Voice dial from BT
3. Decent camera
4. Ability to send Pix to email or another user

Should I wait for the Nokia. If so when will that be relaeased? I can limp along with Cingular awhile longer.

Then you will need a data cable and some type of hacking software to put your own MP3's on the Nokia as well.

Well, you may not need the cable with Full Bluetooth, but you will definately need hacking software. The Verizon UI has 1 folder for sounds and 1 for Ringtones. You cannot PIX message yourself an mp3 ringer and have it go into the ringtone folder for use. It goes to the sounds folder, which cannot be used for ringtones. In order to make it go to the ringtones folder, you need hacking software because the ringtone folder is locked.

I have the VX8100, so I have to use the data cable and bitpim because my BT is crippled. I do not know if bitpim would work over BT if the BT wasn't crippled.

Will bitpim work with a Motorola v710? I currently use a program where I send them as a multimeda message, but it's costing .25 a clip. It's not that bad, but free is better 😁

Based on other information that is out there right now, that is completely incorrect.

Radio Shack already has the dummy phones, and they won't be able to sell it after the end of the year due to their contract ending with VZW. So it has to be going to corporate stores too.

You might want to check verizon's website. They have the mot 710 with a bluetooth headset and memory card for 69.99 if you are just looking for a good deal.
