Less Populated States

does anyone have any idea how much of a monopoly Verizon is in the less populated states? They have the entire markets of both WYO and Montana! That is very smart business but the cingular and tmobile people say it's "not smart business to have towers and spend money on those states that have more cows than people"....
Well idiots, guess what. Verizon has a million extra people in EACH state who signed contracts with VZW because of the lack of choices!!!! Thanks Verizon!

I tend to agree. I used to live in a fairly rural area of Southern Oregon... hey, country folks deserve a lil' coverage love too! 🙂

Verizon ROCKS!!!!!!!!! NOT!!!!!!! Think Verizon is smart hey.... think they're getting one in on the big orange do you..... I DONT THINK SO.... How smart will it look when they have to spend more capital in 2007 getting rid of AMPS in those areas, then the amount of revenue they'll collect in TEN years from those people!!!!!!! Say something.... What.....

Actually, AMPS is not scheduled to go away 'till February 2008. And even that deadline may be extended, as there are a lot of senators and congressmen of rural states that have a vested interest in making sure that their constituents do not suddenly have their cell service cut off.

Say what you want, but supporting AMPS doesn't seem to have hurt Verizon much. And when those rural areas FINALLY go digital (Wi-Max? CDMA450?), who do you think those customers are going to go wtih? VZW, or the guys who wouldn't touch 'em with a ten-foot pole? 😕

I have a lot of respect for the top three carriers, Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint Nextel. They are all three pioneers in their own right, and I believe that Cingular has a slight edge when it comes to having a data network that covers outlying area beyond large cities and highways, and they are the first carrier to do so thus far.

However, Verizon is first with 3G EV-DO, and has an edge over Cingular with this.

What the new Sprint does in the coming months is still hard to say...

Fall flat on their face trying to compete on a much larger level that they don't know how to handle????
