Thinking about switching from Cingular to Verizon

OK
I've been trying to persuade my mom to switch to Verizon, but she is hellbent on keeping Cingular because she thinks they will miraculously get better because they merged with AT&T adn they haven't 👿 ! I'm trying to get a plan in my dads name and pay him for it (I'm only 17).

for all of you fortunate Verizon users out there what type of phone should i get? i see some with internal antennas, stub antennas, and extendable antennas, which type of phone would you suggest? i would rather have more service than features i know some Cingular phones work better than others, does the same apply for Verizon phones?

Thanks
😁

Not in Northern California, they're not. I've had several friends switch from Cingy/ATTW to Verizon, simply because Verizon spanks Cingy silly here.

Also, the JD Power survey shows Verizon being consistently better than Cingy in most parts of the country, except the Northeast (where they're rated about the same), and Texas & Oklahoma (where Cingy is rated better). Most everywhere else, Verizon was rated better, though I'm sure there's small pockets here and there that are exceptions.

Yes

The best phone right now in verizons line up would be the Motorola E815. I would not buy any LG phone from verizon.

I'd add to that to generally stay away from Audiovox and Kyocera, and low-end Motorolas (the V265 has been a disaster, sad to say), and to take a look at Samsung and Nokia.

Samsung has recently released several nice phones for Verizon (such as the 970, 950, and 850), and Nokia is set to do the same in the next couple of weeks, if the Best Buy clerk and his magic database were not sheeite-ing me. 🙂

we'll i have a samsung (a670)and it doesnt compare to my old motorola(T720) with the amount of bars it has and call quality. i am a firm believer in "pull up" antennas and i dont trust my samsung with a pull up, i wouldnt trust one of these new samsungs with stub and internal antennas. you would probably b better off with the moto. deff more bars and better call quality, and less dropped calls. i have had atleast 10 dropped calls with my samsung i only had 2 with my old motorola (keep in mind i make calls in pretty much the same places, and i have had the samsung for 11 months and i had the motorola for 25 months.)
go with the moto if u can swutch! 😁

I've had the opposite experience, vis-a-vis Samsung vs Motorola... my Sammy 530 definitely outperformed by friend's Motorola V265, which then proceeded to blow up at the 10 month mark and had to be replaced under warranty (she was NOT happy).

Call quality was not particularly good with her phone either. Its possible that the higher end Motos (V710, E815) are better in these regards, but a company that's willing to turn out junk at the low-end makes me suspicious. I'd stick with Samsungs or Nokias, personally.

VZW429, you prefer external atennas huh? You and who one out of every hundred 🤣 !? Just at a friends house watching MNF (steelers vs san diego) were in his basement and sure enough no signal Verizon but Cingular "I actually received and held a call"! That's something I've noticed Verizons indoor coverage is QUESTIONABLE at best.

Not surprising since not too long ago, Verizon's CEO was quoted as saying that customers are demanding too much when they expect their mobile phones to work in buildings.

Someone should just keep that guy out of the press.

That's funny... I've had the exact opposite experience. Verizon works VERY well for me indoors- its one of the reasons I went with them in the first place. 🙂

Now Virgin/Sprint when I had 'em, on the other hand... 🙄

If you don't care about things like playing MP3's and taking 1.3MP pics, I'd go with the LG 4650, not very stylish but good all-around phone features. The Samsung A670 is also good, but it's been recently discontinued and the phones Verizon "replaced" it with aren't nearly as good. If you want a more whiz-bang phone, there are several options. The Motorola E815 and LG 8100 are Verizon's top VCAST phones right now, they both have some good features and some drawbacks. Read the reviews and go check 'em out to get a better feel. There's the new Samsung A950 that is officially being released tomorrow. I played with it tonight, it looks pretty sweet, as solid as the LG, but no stub antenna and still good reception. Better sound quality, good as t...

IF YOU WANT A GOOD PHONE FOR VERIZON GO WITH NOKIA, NOT SO MUCH FEATURES IN A NOKIA since they have not realease the new nokia flip phone yet, , HOWEVER THE RECEPTION IS GREAT GO FOR THE NOKIA 3589i YOU CAN FIND IT IN EBAY FOR A REAL GOOD PRICE, DO NOT GO FOR THE OTHER NOKIA 6015i, the 3589i is way better even though it lacks the speaker PHONE, however IT performs better.

NOKIA PHONES RULE IN RECEPTION

Wow....you really are on crack. I had the 3589i and that is the ONLY phone I have ever dropped calls with on VZW. Motorola's get the best signal on VZW (V710 and E815), followed by LG and Samsung. Nokia's are horrible for VZW right now.

well in response to your post, let me tell you that I live close to the border with mexico, when I travel overthere, I always take my nokia phone, and let me tell you something my friends have lg phones, samsung and one other friend has a motorola v710, in fact when I am overthere I can place calls on more places than they do, sometimes I even go as far as the airport across the border and my nokia phone still has signal and is able to place phone calls, where my friends do not get any signal at all as far as the airport is located.

I DON'T KNOW I HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH ANY CDMA NOKIA PHONE
