VZW appears greedy and not in touch with customer needs.

I have a Treo650 with VZW. I can take photos and videos. I can email the photos from the phone but I have to use MMS which VZW charges me to use. Oh, I forgot to mention that I pay VZW $45.00 a month for unlimited data plan so I can use the phone to access the web and process email. Now you would think the $45.00 was enough for VZW but as I mentioned in order to send photos I have to use MMS and pay additional fees. MMS and SMS do not support video so I have no option for sending my videos from my Treo650. According to Palm’s customer service, VZW has locked out my option to attach files to my emails. I could send photos and videos to whomever I wish if I could attach the files to emails but VZW has locked that feature. Palm says the...

The Treo 650 is proprietary in general because of the palm format. So you are limited right off the bat on what you can do with it. Verizon does have other devices that work on windows format that give you more flexability with sending attachments. You also don't have to pay 45 for the pda function. We have bundles now that give you the oppertunity to save moneyoff the function depending on the size of your voice plan. πŸ™‚

"Palm says the unlocked phones do allow attachments in emails but VZW phones are locked and certain features blocked". This is a quote from my original post. My point is VZW should not have blocked the email attachments just to make more money off the MMS and leaving me with little or no options for the videos I shoot with the phone.

Well genius, when you sync with HotSync you can save the photos but video cannot be saved via HotSync to the PC. You have to save the video on the SD card on the Treo650 then remove the card and install it on the PC and upload it. I thought the idea behind these forums was to help one another and learn. Seems to be a lot of bashing going on and negativity towards individuals and that is not a good thing. I pay VZW $45.00 for unlimited data package. My phone has browser and email capabilities just like my PC. AOL, MSN, Yahoo, etcetera allow attachment in emails and if any of them stopped their customers would not like it. VZW thinks it is okay to lock the feature that allows me attach files to my emails and I THINK THAT IS WRONG. This...

A lot of the problem stems from VZW having the most craptacular IT department. Some of the features (IMO) were completely disabled in the phone handsets (Bluetooth) and others was done so users like us couldn't out-smart them! Disabling these features guarantees that there will never be an unlock firmware or a codeset found on the www that can re-enable features... It also guarantees a revenue stream that can be tapped by VZW on their time, their terms... Good luck, brother...

While I understand everyone's frustration with features being blocked, someone on this thread has already pointed out the palm os doesn't exactly match up with VZW network (I have no idea how or why, just repeating info). Also, anyone consider that they disable certain features to minimize the damage that can be caused on the network (ie viruses). While it sounds like most people here in the forum know what their doing, let's not forget how many others are out their, trying to play with their phones not knowing what the heck their doing. Car manufacturers put govenors on their engines (or whatever, I'm not a mechanic) so you can't go 100 MPH backwards, but my car can go that fast...isn't that unfair of them to lock up that feature in my ca...

I know that your $200 dollars a month helps pay my rent. However, you are yelling at the worker ants in a very big ant hill. We can do little to change how the phones are programmed. I will do all that I can tell help you with your Treo 650, with the limited resources given to me by the bigger ants in charge of the ant hill.
Thanks

......I’m not yelling at worker ants, lol. Please read all the posting to the thread and you will see that my original post states that it β€œappears” VZW and I mean corporate not CSR are doing something wrong to its customers in the name of greed. Freedomrep and the other rep, sexy something I think, reply right away to the post with little or no help and sound hostile. I usually blow that kind of stuff off but after my experience with VZW and palm tech support over this issue it pissed me off that individuals claiming to be VZW reps would respond with such gibberish. Tbe VZW tech should have known that the email attachment feature was locked but he had to transfer me to palm. The palm tech (a woman in Manilla who spoke poor English and...

I post when I get bored too. Just a note though, try not to use "headers" that involve the terms like "greedy". All companies are greedy, it's what makes them profitable. Higher numbers for them, better for the stock, better for the investors, yada yada yada. Many reasons exist for costs of features and other options on phones. Most of these reasons I will never understand or agree with, but that's just the way it goes. Businesses will always be at the whim of it's consumers, so any actual unethical business practices will bite back whoever or whatever decided it was cost effective. Perfect example, outsourcing CS. Cheaper for the company, more profits, and if they need to, they can drop those savings directly back to the consumer (n...

One thing I just have to say (and this is not specifically pointed at phonefool) it gets kind of tiring hearing people say I pay x amount for this feature, why should I have to pay extra for this other feature.

I am sorry to tell everyone that VZW is a business, a for-profit business, maintaining and operating and expanding the largest and most reliable cellular network is not cheap. That means that there maybe certain features that need to be purchased and certain fees that need to be paid.

In this case it is not exactly fair to include pix messaging in the price of the unlimited data plan, that means that the customers who have devises w/o cameras would be paying for a serviced that they cannot use. So guess what you price the ...

You know what would be great...if all the VZW reps who respond to customer concerns with ignorant and useless responses would actually list their contact information with VZW so their bosses could see why customers are leaving. Only an idiot would snub their nose at a customer like me and others like me. All your customers should count but it takes all kinds and unfortunately your kind sucks! Please do not bother to respond unless you have a solution or good advise for my VZW problem. I have a dog and she is a bitch so I do not want another one. BYE! 🀣

what in the world are we thinking? you spend $200 a month, your so important and because you are upset that some features on your phone are locked you think we should all bow down to you. You were never promised any of those features, and you had 15 days to return the equipment if you didn't like how it worked, or for any other reason for that matter.

I would say that I have to agree with you phonefool. I currently have a Samsung I700 I can send pictures through attachments in emails, I cant however send them through MMS. I dont pay for the Monthly Access because I use Quick 2 Net so I only pay for the minutes I use. You expect PDA phones that VZW retails around $300 to $500 to be able to do just about anything. I would be upset if I was not able to send Word or Excel files through my PDA not just pictures or video as well. So from one VZW PDA user to another I do understand your frustration. You may be able to download email clients that allow attachments. I know that I can download Pocket PC Based Mail Clients, but the Pocket Outlook addition allows email attachments. Try this it...

I am going to give Versamail a try and see if that helps. Finally someone who gets it. I was not bitching about the videos only. 😳

You still pay the $45 a month for the unlimited data feature? You should subscribe to one of our new calling plans that incorporate both the data and the voice to save yourself about $45 or so per month. Also, depending on who you work for, you could also be eligible for a discount off your data service and monthly access for voice, if you don't want to change your calling plan to something more practical. To my knowledge, however, no one really cares what kind of phone you have if you're sending MMS then you will be charged for it. Don't like it then don't send them......OR send them to the vzw pic place thing. I think sending pictures to that is free (don't quote me on that, I know discounts and activations not fees associated ...

My issue is with attachments not being allowed using the email application. That would solve my video sharing problems. Does VZW pics places support video and if so how do I get them there with the Treo650? Thank you for your response, all help is appreciated. I will look into the other plans but I am in a family share plan and I think data and voice cannot be combined in the family share plans for an additional discount?

Call data support and ask them that question.....and yes, you can get a discount on your family share line - only the primary would be eligible since it's over 34.99 a month. If you work for say, IBM, you get 20% off your data feature as well, so 20% from the $45 per month (on every line that has the data feature) plus the discount off the primary line access....it's worth looking into.....call 800-711-7773 to find out about discounts that you may be eligible for with your current employer....customer service should be able to assist with the pix place feature.

I don't know what market you are in, but in the midwest the extra discounts are only on single lines. The typical unlimited data plan is 49.99, if you have any voice plan that is the rate for 45, which apparently this customer already has. So they are getting 5 bucks off a month. But to take advantage of the larger discounts, the customer must have a standalone line in the 1000 minute plus range. As far as the corporate discounts...that is a good idea. Although here, if someone qualifies for a corporate discount, they can get that discount but all locations are hands off on that account. They MUST go through their B2B rep...and that rep alone. So they have a billing question...call that B2B rep and *hope* that person gets back to them....

There are almost no CDMA providers that will activate another carrier's phone. The main reason is usually they cannot because they don't have the programing sequence or the programmin codes and the second reason is they cannot program that phone to use their towers. GSM phones have this advantage of that information is in their SIM cards not in the phones. But CDMA it's in the phones.

Please take this into consideration when you wonder why a carrier has locked a feature or two:

We have contracts with providers of some of our services (Get It Now, PixPlace to name a couple). If we gave customers the ability to take a video and then e-mail it to themselves as an attachment we COULD (I say this because I am not 100% sure) be violating that contract. You can send your videos to pixplace, but it will still count as an MMS message.

This also applies to why the OBEX profiles have been disabled on all BT phones TO DATE. Our agreement with our BREW (GIN) providers will not allow it. It also falls under copyright infringement. The fee that you pay for the ringtones or anything else you download pay for licensing a...
