Verizon Nokia Phone???

Does anyone know a current status on Verizon Nokia Phones? It seems that verizon dumped Nokia after 6015I which I always had great luck and reception with. I've always been a huge fan of Nokia and would hate to switch to cingular just for a phone that works decently. I currently have an LG6100 which is the worst phone I've ever. Horrible reception and tons of dropped calls, regardless of firmware updates and *228 which never seems to do much.

Any thoughts or info would be great

I would say try a VZW Samsung. I have dropped 2 calls in 13 months.

The big reason you do not see a lot of Nokia phones on Verizon is because thair CDMA program really started to struggle. Mokia decided to concintrate on GSM (which by the way that have a GREAT GSM chipset). Their CDMA chipsets do need some help though. There are a few models being developed and / or testing. Personally, I would go with an LG or a Samsung. We seem to have the least amount of complaints in the stores with them. Hope this helps.

Um... maybe you didn't see the link, but the Nokia 6236i and 6256i are both slated to come to Verizon soon. The 6255, is almost an identical Nokia to the 6256 (and is also CDMA), has gotten GREAT user reviews on other US CDMA carriers.

I'll definitely be checking it out once it comes out, which is allegedly in October.

ummmm.... maybe you didn't read my post in full. I stated that nokia has phones in testing currently and is also developing more. So I did recognize the 6236 and 6256. They are testing right now, and if there are any glitches in the software at all, they must re-develop it and start testing from scratch. This means that if they are in the very last phase of testing and they find a small glitch, they pull the testing, re-write the software to solve the problem, then test from the begining again to make sure the fix didn't mess anything else up. So, a phone that's "slated" to come out in, let's say, December, may not actually come out until March, or April, or maybe not even get released at all. One thing that Verizon does is test their phones...

Um, you didn't recognize the 6236 and 6256 by name, so I simply helped out there. And yes, I know all about testing (on the software side anyway) since its a field I've worked in. Trust me, a 'small glitch' won't put a project back several months... it'd have to be something pretty major.

And all software, even very good software, ships with glitches still in it. They tend to fall into two categories: minor ones that the user is likely to encounter, or major ones that the user is extremely unlikely to encounter. Its all about keeping the consumer from calling CS in large numbers or returning the product in large numbers... there's a certain projected 'complaint rate' that is (unfortunately) deemed acceptable. With good companies, that ra...

It also seems to ensure that the primary phones they sell with the "hot" features are almost entirely LG's...I'm sorry but if they were really that anal about their testing and thus that's the reason for the EXTREME delay in releasing the 6256i then they wouldn't have half the phones they have on their shelves now. Plus, please, someone tell me of a mid level nokia in recent years that was glitchy and generally buggy in comparison to Verizon's usual "offerings"?...hmmm none? Yea, that's what I thought.

The fact is Nokia is not Verizon's BITCH like LG is thus they get the cold shoulder from Verizon constantly regardless of the fact that Nokia consistently makes some of the best performing CELL PHONES (not camera/crap phones etc) that mone...

I'm not a big cell phone person thus I didn't know. I just know Verizon's phones suck ass (I hate my moto v710 but it was the best they had that had what I wanted) so I decided to check out Nokia's CDMA line and who's offering what which led me to finding this Nokia thats being released soon.

The RAZR is a cool phone, I had one when I was very briefly with Cingular, but their menu's are horrid plus cingular drops calls like there's no tomorrow so I had to switch back to Verizon.

waiting on the never ending future unadmitted release of the nokia 6256i - any day now 😕

Although I understand it's *possible* verizon may finally be moving towards utilizing nicer phones, If I had to place money on it one way or another, I'd say this is going to be a short lived rare offering and will not prove to become the norm for them.

We'll see...

the biggest reason that you don't see as many Nokia's on the VzW network is because Nokia chooses not to use a Qualcomm chipset. Qualcomm, the company who basically invented CDMA, sells their chipsets to most CDMA developers; however, Nokia has developed their own CDMA chipset and it is a costly venture for them to make many different models with it. You will see some new ones, such as the 6255i, but not as many as you see on the GSM side.

Several years ago, I thought I remember hearing about this gigantic court case where Qualcomm was told they had to share their technology with Nokia. Assuming that's true, why would Nokia try to reinvent the wheel here? CDMA has never been Nokia's forte! When Kyocera bought the handset business from Qualcomm, it was also my understanding that the CDMA chip set issue was solved, once and for all, that this would be the standard. Am I mistaken here? BTW, I think Kyocera tried to reinvent what Qualcomm already had, with disastrous results.

As far as Nokia is concerned, I used a Nokia 6015i on the nTelos network for about three months (I am an employee) before we had to turn them in for a Motorola V265 (yuck!) to coincide with the comp...

How soon will the Samsung A970 hit the stores...anybody? Looks like a decent alternative if the 6256i doesn't work well.

The A970 has just started showing up in Best Buy stores in my area (SF/SJ Bay Area).

They tout it as a 'Best Buy Exclusive', and are asking $299 for it with a 2-year contract.
