Is everyone aware that Verizon will start charging a $15 activation fee on 2 year contracts, effective May 10th? It applies to every line on the account, which is standard I suppose. This strikes me as a really BAD idea, unless they are pretty certain that the other national carriers who offer two year agreements are going to do the same. I mean, I know its not a lot of money, but people are dirt cheap and you know they will make a stink. If they weren't cheap, why would they ever take the free Nokia 2285 when they could have the Nokia 3589i for $30? Anyway, I hadn't seen any mention of it on the boards here, so I thought I'd ask.

This isn't a bad idea...
It's a REDICULOUSLY STUPID BAD IDEA!
Crying out loud... $15 on a 2 year.. HAH
It is hard enough to get a sale in the ghetto location that I am in now.. FORGET about telling a customer that they have to pay an activation fee regardless of contract length.
...
Considering its $35 on a one year, it was always waived on a 2 year. Its probably an extra way to offset LNP costs. I know there are other carriers that charge an act. fee regardless of contract length.
...
😡 Well I think it's kind of dumb to charge and activation fee, when they ask you to agree to a 2 year contract. Moreover, VWZ, like other companies, is charging fees and/or surcharges that appear on a customer's monthly bill, that supposedly are to offset costs from government mandates.
Verizon is just ripping people off. 😡
...
um...
let's see:
cost to change your number w/Verizon: $0
other carriers: up to $15
cost to swap esns, and upgrade phones w/Verizon: price of phone only.
other carriers: up to $18 plus cost of phone.
regulatory cost increase as a result of LNP w/Verizon: from $.05 to $.45
with other carriers: as much as $1.75
Talking with VZW customer service: free.
Other carriers: can be $1.25 depending on call.
Using online services and options: free.
Other carriers: limited availability, and up to $5 monthly.
Port out/in costs w/VZW: $0 (unless you break contract)
Other carriers: some charge port out fees.
I hardly think VZW is trying to nickel and dime you compared to other companies.

😢 It is confirmed, Verizon will be charging a $15.00 activation fee in Ohio & Michigan Markets starting on May 10.

Verizon Wireless Customer "Can you hear me now?
Response "Yes, I hear you clearly even though we are both in remote areas"
T-Mobile Customer "Can you hear me now?
Response "sssssssss................ (drop)"

Yeah, VZW is ripping people off. They shouldnt charge anything and give free phones and have one dedicated cust service rep to every customer. It's like they want to make money or something, what are they thinking
...
Easy, guy... it doesn't bother me if they want to charge an activation fee. I just know how cheap some people are, and in light of the fact that a two-year contract will get you a waived activation fee with many carriers I'm just surprised that they are doing this. Maybe I shouldn't be, since Verizon has never been afraid to be more expensive. I guess if you are providing superior service overall and people are willing to pay for it then why not?

Don't believe everything you hear. Question is, where did you hear about this new activation fee? I honestly don't think that's gonna happen.
...
Oh, It's gonna happen. Trust me. It's the question if it will remain, and how long it will remain.

And how do you know this? What makes you so sure?
Trouble I have is with a lot of folks in these forums spread rumors that don't neccessarily have any substance. Even those folx that work for the companies don't have any real clout enough to know a lot about these major changes, features, programs, etc. let alone the timing of these subjects.
No one has the guts to say where they get their info from. Until someone has something to substantiate their rumors, then they will continue to be mer heresy.
...
Dude, don't be a moron. First of all, the activation fee started showing up on contracts generated by Verizon's online activation system, even though its not supposed to yet and that's a mistake. Secondly, I have an email and a fax broadcast explaining the whole thing. I'm not the kind of idiot who just makes these things up and posts them for fun.

There are going to be bigger changes than that coming down the pipeline soon.

First off, I can only surmise that you are talking about a process that you have seen in the states west of Colorado/Wyoming, 'cause it sure as heck ain't happening here in the West.
Secondly, you can drop the name calling. If you are little more than a rep and the above is not true, then I'd have to call you out. When you have been around as long as I have and have gotten the great marks as much as I have, then you'll have room to speak. If you are more than a mere rep, then that would change everything, but in either case I will ask for some common courtesy.
Yes I'm tooting my own horn, but fact is, my co-workers come to me when they have questions as much as they would other supervisors, so I would not presume to be speaking out of my ...

VZW will be charging a $15 activation fee on 2 yr plans starting in 2 weeks. Also there was an ERoes error that caused the $15 charge to show up earlier than was supposed to. That charge will not appear on any of those bills. I am also in the west area as well and Biggs, if you need any info to substantiate what I just said, check your alerts and info manager.

Don't ask me for common courtesy after you make smart ass remarks about me spreading rumors. And you might want to hold off on tooting your own horn. I'm also in the West, and I'm a manager at an indirect store that handles several carriers. I know what I'm talking about, and if I didn't I wouldn't have said anything in the first place, a technique that you might want to look in to. Next time, check your ego at the door.

Again, I ask for common courtesy. Look at YOUR opening statement that I have copied and pasted from your previous post.
Keep in mind also that it is against coprorate policy to divulge this kind of information to forums such as this and can include possible termination. I am sure that you are a capable employee of the company, but I know the "mucky-muck" would certainly frown upon the acti...

I had a long-winded reply all ready, but I decided it would be a waste of breath. Let me just say that Verizon let the cat out of the bag themselves when this fee started showing up early on contracts where it wasn't supposed to. I was then instructed to inform customers that this fee wasn't applicable yet, so I don't think I'm divulging any corporate secrets.
...
actually verizon wireless is the last company to even charge for activation fees on 2 yr agreements. we are still the lowest for a two year agreement anyway. we have been pampering people with free activations and for 15 for excellent service seems fair enough. crapular is 36.00, sprint 26.00, nextel is 35.00 and t-mobile dosent even offer a 2 year. i dont see what the big deal is anyway, when if you went to the "other" companines you would pay more for a less impressive service.
...
For those of us that are not employees, does this activation fee apply to renewals as well as new service?
...
new activations only. not renewals
...
verizon wireless has the 2nd lowest activation fee. most of the other carriers do not even have a diffrence between the 1 year and the 2year. quit your crying you babies. 😈
