Pix question

I just had a customer come into my store with an LG VX6100 asking for a cable that he can get the pictures from his phone to his pc with. I am not aware of such a device, to the best of my knowledge he would have to pay the 25 cents each and use his e-mail. Or he can subscribe to a pix messaging plan. He then said RadioShack across the street told him to come in here that I would have this cable. They were the ones that told him about it. They said if I didn't then definitely the Verizon Wireless retail store that is 30 miles away would.

Hello?!?! I haven't heard of such a cable. Am I missing something?!?! Or is (as usual) RadioShack just sending another person on a wild goose chase?

crazyeaglefan,

Radio Shack is killing you. I haven't heard of any cable either.

Go to your local Radio Shack Store and talk with the manager (he was probably the one that sent the customer to you. 😁 ) and tell him what is going on. He may be just trying to get the Verizon customers to you so they know who to talk to, so when they switch to whoever Radio Shack carries next.

I am not sure about this but I have seen some posts under the 8100 forum stating that they usb cable from the 7000 will work on this. I know from that forum that there is "some type of cable" that will work...I am just not sure which one. (Try going to that forum)

The other way to do this would be with the mini sd card with a card reader. This would get around the 25 cent/msg.

Yeah, I have a V710 and have used the memory card for this. I used to be able to move music on there also to assign as ringers until some software glitches got so bad I had to get the update.

eaglefan, there is such a cable. It is the USB data cable for the LG8000 and LG8100. It should also work on the 6100. VZW won't tell you that there is software out there that allows you to get the pictures off of the phone through that cable, but, indeed it does....IF you have the correct software.

I know that you can use the Data Cable aka Mobile Office Kit and bitpim to transfer pictures from your phone to your computer. I have the LG8000, and I transfer all my pics as well as make my own ringtones and put them on my phone. Not sure if it works the same for the 6100, but that would be the cable your customer was looking for. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did a google search and read some on the bitpim. I asked a VZW tech about this and was told under no uncertain terms that this will void the manufacturers warranty. How would they know though unless the person told them? I don't know if I would advertise something in my store though that would void a warranty...too much liability there.

VZW does not sell nor do they promote any software alowing the customer to transfer pics from their phone to a computer via data cables. VZW main reason for this: To charge the cust for the data transfer. I have heard of customers finding aftermarket equipment that would allow such a thing.
