hi,
i'm new to verizon and don't know how the prl update works exactly. i decided to switch from the america choice plan, which i've just had for a week, to the local choice plan to get more minutes. the csr said i didn't need to do the *228 to get a new prl. is the prl the same for all plans? if not, is there any benefit to my not doing the update yet?
thx.

Local plans have different PRL's compared to America's Choice plan's, which have different PRL's from Singlerate plans. Here is the rule of thumb on when to update using the *228 option #2:
Do this once every three months -OR- whenever you change your calling plan, whichever event occurrs first.

Depending on the PRL, like for example America's Choice, it has several SID's loaded in, SID is a system ID for a given area, all CDMA carriers have SID's for certain areas, like Mountain Cellular is 1080, VZW N Cal bay area is 40, um, whatever we call Sacramento, um the Valley? is 112, etc... The phone knows by the PRL what to pick up first, based on who your carrier has roaming agreements, not where you would pick up the best signal... This can easily be manipulated in most phones with the Force Mode or Set Mode Auto features. (Please know what these do...
