Not to beat a dead horse....8100 or 815 (yet again?)

I just cant decide between these two phones. I had the 710 and loved the blue-tooth and its reception, but thats it. I now have the 8000 and like it except for the camera and reception. Actually, the camera is not bad, but I hate the close up lever that never stays where it should, but tends to migrate in the middle. After reading the reviews, I find that they are biased by a lot of people bashing one in the review area, then praising the other. In other words, most of the reviews i don't trust because the same person posts on the same day in both. I NEED SOME HONEST ANSWERS!!! I am not loyal to any brand. I like motos reception, but hate their menus and build quality. I love LG's build quality and menus and overall navigation, but ...

I am definitely not a basher of either phone - since the LG 8100 was the first I had owned in quite a while - and then returned yesterday. All of the major complaints you will read about is what I suffered in the three days of using it. I didn't care about the MP3 player and while I cared about the camera (which I though was mediocre) - I could have lived with it. My main complaint was the poor reception (although I always had one/two bars - I think I should have had more) and when I used the speakerphone - while I heard the person pretty good - they couldn't hear me. I looked at the 815 and thought it was cheaply made and while it would probably be OK - I wasn't going to settle for OK. Since I was a new Verizon customer I canceled and wi...

The A970 sounds very appealing, but it took me everything I had to wait for the 8100 to be released. My next door neighbor is an assistant executive VP for wireless zone, so I tend to get "hooked" up here and there with equipment. This upgrade is going to be an upgrade thourgh Verizon this time, so I want to make sure I get my moneys worth. At this point, and for the first time, I just can't make up my mind as to what phone is for me. The ONLY thing that scares me about the 8100 is the reception, and that is one of the main points I am interested in the E815. Is the reception really that different between the two?

There is a huge difference in reception in the two phones. I had the 8100 & returned it for the E815. When the E815 first came out I didn't buy it since it looked very cheaply built. However, I experienced all of the problems that people have been complaining about with the 8100. Most annoying was lack of reception, earpiece volume fading up & down. The Moto gets great reception & doesn't have any bugs in the software - so far. I am very happy with the Moto but can't understand why they used such cheap plastic to construct it. Also they should have used the newer charging port like the V3 has. 😕

To be honest with you, if you really want the 8100, which is what it sounds like what you really want, I would wait longer if you can. These phones are new and the bugs need to be worked out. Wait a little while and let them work the bugs out.

You are in the same situation as I am, I have a 8100 sitting in my desk drawer, and I have not activated it yet because I am worried about the reviews I have been reading. I have the 8000 right now and it seems to be working good, I feel I may get a few dropped calls, but only when I am traveling, so it could be just a network deal. I have not experienced the earpiece volume deal a lot of people have reported by dialing 611 and listening to the minutes used, ect, the speaker phone as far as list...

You can change your ESN online @ no charge. The 8100 has been out a week and I haven't had a single call about it. I know I am 1 rep with all the reps VZW has, but you would think I would have heard something if it were that bad of a phone.

Yea, its really all about reception. Unless you have that, nothing else really matters.

Dont like Moto, but I'd take the E815 over the 8100 any day. Simply too many people are coming back complaining about the LG's reception.

All LGs...or just the 8100 specifically? Personally, I've always believed LGs were inherently better built.

LGs have improved a lot in construction quality and styling. But reception seems to be their achilles (spelling?) heel lately.

People are complaining about reception on the 6100, 8000, 8100. Its almost like LG decided to concentrate on the stuff that makes the phone look good in store (styling, construction) to get the sale, but dialed it back a notch on the stuff that really matters once youre out the store door (reception).

Kinda cynical I know, but thats my sneaking suspicion.

I thought they updated the charging port on the 815. I would also like to know how the voice dial works on the 8100, although I think Im leaning more towards the 815 at this point. Is the 815's voice dialing better than the 710's? If the 8100 would only have the reception of the Moto phones, I would be all over that like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Motorola needs to take a good hard look at the LG's constuction because they have it down. Anyway, thanks for the opinions. I would also like to hear from anybody that upgraded from the 710 to the 815.

I just switched from the 8100 to the 815 (two days) and I will say that the voice recognition on the 815 appears to be better. I really like the fact that I can use voice recognition with the 815 closed and carry on the conversation through speakerphone.

My reception on the 815 is better. I had echo on the speakerphones with both and I probably will change out my current 815 for another 815 tomorrow. i was told today by MOTO that the echo on the speakerphone is due to a delay in the voice on one end. The rep stated that they did not have enough direct comlaints of the echo to consider a recall or a major problem. They will just exchange them for working ones. Hopefully some actually do work properly. The 8100 gave me all types of gr...
