Buying a Verizon Phone From a Third Party?

Bebop

Mar 22, 2004, 1:56 AM
ok so circuit city and other authorized dealers in new york city all sell verizon phones significantly cheaper then verizon stores themselves. i'll be switching from at& t into a verizon one year agreement when i buy the phone. by buying from a ciruit city what is lost than if i bought from verizon. the idea of a verizon store repairing a broken phone or switching it out for one that works the same day is amazing. employees at third party stores all tell me yeah if it breaks after the first month just bring to a verizon store and your good. a few verizon employees agreed but most say not. they'll only work on phones purchased directly. beyond that are their separate contracts btw verizon and me and me and the third party dealer? and lastly a...

OK lets start with the repair thing. If you buy a phone from a third party you must take it back to the third party to get repaired and there are no third party vendors for VZW that I have ever seen that have technicians on site like the VZW stores do.

Another down fall to dealers is a double early termination fee. If you choose to cancel your contract early VZW is going to charge you and ETF of $175 and most likely the dealer is going to charge you there own ETF of roughly the same amount.

As far as a discount at the end of your one year contract you will be eligible to purchase a new phone at the one year promo price (assuming that you are signing a new one year contract) after completing 10 months of your one year contract. I...

I am a dealer in the Ohio/Michigan Market. As a dealer, we can not access accounts without the customer's cellular number, and the last four of their ss#, and this is just to look at the account. In order for us to make ANY changes at all on the account(s), we must have the full ss#, and driver's license, and current address. If this information does not match with the existing info on Verizon's system, the upgrade or whatever function is failed. So dealers renewing without customers knowing is very tough to impossible to do.

Yes, most but not all Agents charge an ETF of thier own, but this is to make up for the cost that they lose when the customer cancels their contract.

As far as the new every two, no, we as an agent can not...

Wirelessrepinohio,
I am not trying to rip authorized agents. I was just stating why it is better to buy from a VZW store, rather than an agent. I know not all agents are shady, but some are and the one I spoke of is a very agent of ours. In this case the contract was renewed and it should not have been. Sometimes agents do have lower price and sometimes they do not. But the new every two more than makes up for the price difference. There will always be the on-site technicians though. Agents do not have them and VZW stores do. Agents have to send the phone away for service and we fix them on site.

Sorry for the tone of my post yesterday. It is very hard in my opinion to work for an Agent, becuase of all the stuff that other shady agents do, and people think that all Agents are the same.
I was just trying to state that there are honest agents out there, that do follow the rules of Verizon Wireless, and that with EROES, it is nearly impossible to do renewals without the customers full ss# as well as address, and sometimes phone numbers.

Thanks for understanding.
