Nextel offers an unlimited national plan...but as of yet, no carrier except Metro offers unlimited calling except where Metro offers service.

Not sure that you'd really want that... we have MetroPCS in my area (SF/SJ Bay Area) and it's routinely referred to as 'GhettoPCS'.

For example, my friend's girlfriend was at his house and he got a text message... from her. She looked at it, laughed and said, "I sent that to you two days ago!".

I guess the prob with unlimited is ppl really will talk and text tons on it and overburden the network. Needless to say, my friend isn't on 'GhettoPCS' anymore. 😕

Verizon used to have an unlimited usage plan. I was on it from late 1994 (When my carrier was Cellular One, pre-Verizon) until about a year ago. I paid $99.95 per month for unlimited minutes, but I had to pay roaming charges and long distance charges. For a long time that worked for me, but it finally reached the point where I no longer needed more than 2000 minutes, and the no roaming and no long distance charges is great. Where my bills used to average $165/month, they are now in the $125/month range.

In a major place like that there would be to many people boggin down the network. Calling plan allowances cause people to moderate the amount of time spent on the phone. If a large customer base like that in NY had an unlimited allowance, people would never get off the phone and the network would suffer capcity issues. I remember in the west area a few years ago that was tried, and come 5:00 when eveyone got off work and started calling home, you could hardly make a call. ☹️
