What does call from "Restricted" mean?

KLFloyd

Around 4:30 this morning I got a series of calls from a number that was listed only as "restricted" can someone tell me what this means? I don't remember answering the calls (just silencing the phone, but it was 4am so who knows) but they showed up on my incoming call log twice for a few seconds each this morning.

I've also been regularly getting phone calls from "Unavailable" numbers (typically about at the sometime every day, usually around 9:30 and 4:30) but I"ll answer the phone and it will cut off as soon as I say something. though.

Sorry if these are silly questions, hope someone can enlighten me.

Could be telemarketers. Could be someone that has their number blocked. Could be a b...

File a police report and have your incoming call records subpoenaed. Then you'll truly know who's calling. It's the only way.

lol. All it means is whoever is calling you has their number blocked on caller ID. At that early in the morning, it was probably just a wrong number. 🤣

"Restricted" means the person has blocked their caller ID from showing. On landlines, you can usually opt for a service (nominal cost) that doesn't allow such calls through... a recorded message tells the caller to dil *82 followed by your number to unblock Caller ID for that one call. Unfortunately, such a service is not available for cellphones.

"Unavailable" is the equivalent of the old "Out of Area" message on caller ID's and these days it usually means telemarketers. I am advised that there is a law that took effect earlier this year that REQUIRES telemarketers to show a number on caller ID devices. I haven't seen any "unavailables" around here for several months, so it probably is true.

It also could be a fluke where the phon...

Restricted, as many have said already, means that the person who is calling you has restricted you from seeing their number. Now allthough these calls might be accidental, I know back in the day when I was a little hellian 😈 and made prank phone calls, you could dial *64 (I think) before you placed a call (it would beep twice and then the dial tone would come back and then you place the call normally) and that would block your caller-ID from comming up. The only way to really know is go file a police report. Hope this was helpful.

Is this an Altell service? 3 of my best friends are on Altell and everyone of their numbers come up Restricted. They don't dial anything other than my number but they still come up as "Restricted".
