They also agree to rules and regulations to operate the business. Sometimes those rules happen to be "Don't do anti-competitive things."

anti competative, if you buy or do anything to another company that its your industry it can not be helped. t-mobile offers cell service same as att so its not that you wouldn't be able to keep service. and there is still sprint/verizon/pcs/U.S cellular. still plenty of choices.

The FCC market analysis reports have consistently shown over the past few years that the cellular marketplace is not robustly competitive.

Calling out other firms whose subscriber base is 1/10 of your own and labeling them "robust competitors" is hogwash. i'm by no means into business and politics but it seems if t-mobile was so awsome and in the money they wouldn't want to sell. I also think their is nothing wrong with a big carrier, its probly the only industry that would benefit but the bigger and more money they make more tower = more service and everyone likes being able to have coverage everywhere right, i honestly dont know.

If you look ONLY at technical efficiencies and economies of scale, monopolies and near monopolies are always more efficient than a competitive marketplace.

The issue at hand is that efficiency is NOT the only goal to look at. It doesn't matter how much good will come to AT&T out of the deal if it harms the larger marketplace.

Actually, no. If "Super AT&T" is able to erect cell sites in zones A and B, why couldn't the carriers currently do that right now? T-Mobile owns spectrum in zone A, they place a cell site to cover zone A; AT&T owns spectrum in zone B, they place a cell site to cover zone B. Both carriers offer each other fair...
