Insurance
I don't know if Asurion accepts customers directly.
You could ask VZW Customer Service to add the insurance. Depending on what market you are in, and on other variables, they may or may not do it.
The basic rule is that you can only add insurance within 15 days of purchasing the phone. And yes, generally, the intent of the program is that insurance is only available for phones purchased from VZW or from a VZW authorized agent.

I have had what I consider minimal experience with both providers (I've spoken with supervisors and managers in the customer service department's for each). Based on these experiences, though, I'd say Lock\Line is actually more lenient - so to speak - with their policies.
By the way, props on an awesome post, as always, bear. You continue to impress!
