this might be a no brainer, but here it goes. I went into a Best Buy and was looking at the Verizon phones and deals they offer. Best Buy phones are cheaper with a new/renewed contract but the warranty has me worried. Can one get a phone insured thru Assurion, without going thru Verizon. The prices are good, but can they-Best Buy- actually give better service? Everyone ,please reply..
...
Not sure about the warranty, but Best Buy screwed up my rate plan and it took two months to straighten it out. They have better prices but I'm not sure if the frustration is worth it.

Depending on where you live you might be near a independent agent that is considered one of the good ones. I'd look at giving them your business before a big box retailer.
It's always good to have someone you can go back to.
...
Well the advantage of BB is that they can offer you a really good service plan (black tie) which will cover essentially everything with the phone that VZW will not... Only for a small fee. My brother and sister in-law both work at BB and try to get me to get phones thru them. BB does not offer 1yr contracts which is why I only shop at the VZ retailers.
...
Then when you go back for help bb sends you to a corp store or indirect because they are to lazy to help or have already got your money and thats all they care about. I mean who works at bb selling phones for 5 years? Nobody thats who. So imo bb is only good for the custy to save a buck on the phone. Other then that there is no advantage to getting your phone at bb unless you want problems. Remember you get what you pay for! I wonder if they get both commish and salary like us or just an hourly wage?
...
BB is for people who want to 'save' money. The people who work there are young kids, who have no idea what they doing. At least it was my experience, so I end up not buying from them.
Matter of fact the only way you buy any product from them, know exactly what you want(model number,etc...), because it seems to me most of the people who work there are very poorly trained.

Even for people who want to save money there are better options than Best Buy. If I did not care about having someone as my "go to" person then I'd purchase from Amazon or the such.
...
I thought the thread here was about bb vs verizon, I know about Amazon.
...
wow you must have a really crappy best buy, my three best buys are just as knowledgeable as the corp stores, but alot of the people that work in my best buy's take alot of personal interest in the industry
...
They get straight salary...$9.25 hourly and no commission on anything

I would quit for that slave pay!
...
thats not salary thats a hourly rate, they do get bi or quarterly bonus's based on how much the dept sells
...
hourly, and quartlery bonus depending on notioinal margin
...
Yes. Asurion will insure phones purchased from Best Buy. I purchased my Incredible there.
...
So does that mean if I buy a phone from BB or a third party reseller, I can go to a corp store and they would replace the phone-if needed or ??.
...
Here's what you need to know. If you're ONLY looking at price Best Buy, Amazon, and Radio Shack are good options.
If you want good service and you want to take advantage of everything a direct store has to offer, why not just buy it from the direct store to begin with? That's not just Verizon, that's any of the 4 majors.
...
I used to think that way aswell until I became the rep for three best buys, they have the ability to do everything a corp store can do, just like a corp store it depends on the rep you get that determins the quality of the service.
...
Corporate stores do not replace phones when covered by insurance. You get a replacement through the mail if you choose asurion regardsless of the place of purchase.
Another poster already mentioned it, you are better off finding a locally owned or run Premium Retailer. Regardless of how much a corporate employee or a best buy employee wants to help you none of them are personally invested in your happiness. Yes if you are unhappy they may lose the commission but an agent loses the entire profit of the sale. In my experience very few corp employees are 100% invested because their financial success does not depend on every single opportunity.
Big difference.

Hey now. When I worked at a Corp store as a sales rep I was heavily invested in my customers. I was there for 4 years, spent time going through the device with them, troubleshooting, etc.
In fact, if I recognized a customer of mine was back in the store for service issues I preferred to help them. In fact, now as a customer, when I go back to the store I worked at I run into some of my old customers who wish I was still there.

I you buy a phone from an indirect then they are responsible for replacing the phone within the first fourteen days. The phone has a manufacturer's warranty of one year. A corporate store with a technician can replace it under warranty 15-365 IF it is a warranty issue.

Not sure where you live, Where I am at one of the big 4 just put kiosks inside hhgregg. So you get a premium retailer not owned by the big box. You get a premium retailer that has Instant Rebates honors NE2, annual upgrades, 1 year contracts and will price match BB. Also their phone protection destroys Asurian.
I got my Incredible for like $99 with the protection included during some promo. If anything happens to my phone they will give me a new over the counter replacement for $40 1 time. Much better then paying asurian for 2 years to get a refurb mailed to me.
I just got a direct mailer from hhgregg and they had the Incredible for .99 on some super bowl weekend promo today.
I know hhgregg is not nationwide so that won't help out...

I worked in a corp store for three years. I am now the rep for both Best Buy and Walmart. Best Buy prices are usually always cheaper, not to mention they offer Geek Squad Black Tie on all phones. This covers the phone if it gets broken or water damage. Its a monthly cost the gets charged to your debit, credit card. No commitment length, and no deductable, plus they give you a phone to use if it needs to be sent out for service. If its a blackberry you purchased with black tie, they just give you a brand new blackberry without any hassle. AT&T offer assurian as a alternative just like Verizon, but you have to pay a deductable, and everything is done by mail. The manufactures warranty is the same as if you got it at Verizon.
