you can get rid of it, without root, with things like ADW Launcher and Launcher Pro, but then you lose sense (not worth it imo) I haven't rooted my Dinc yet.. thats how much I like sense.

Those don't get rid of the stuff, they just hide the icon for the apps. They're still there though.
