The carriers are offering better coverage maps, but you need to know where to look. To get the most accurate maps for Verizon, look on their web site for the "Enhanced Services" map.

Bill,
Why would you look at the enhanced services map unless of course you were looking to see where your enhanced services will work? That map will not tell you nearly every where that your phone will work.

Yeah, Verizon Wireless enhanced services map is a map showing you where you can use the push to talk (Walkie Talkie feature). Verizon has a way bigger coverage area than that. For Their real coverage map -- to make calls-- you need to look at their national Coverage area. Which is about 95% of the US.

The Enhanced Service map shows Verizon's native coverage. It's hard to tell exactly what the original question was--whether it was the carrier's (in this case Verizon's) own coverage or coverage including roaming parters.

it is real hard to see what the actual coverage of any service. Terain is a big hinderance in coverage. I wish that they had maps like I used to when I worked for a 2 way radio company. It had dots of differing colors telling proper coverage.

Like the ones we still get from Nextel Partners in our area... The RF propagation map indicates in-building, in vehicle, and pedestrian signal strength in our area. They use different colors to indicate the three.
These maps are very helpful to misrepresent coverage in our rural market.

Therein lies the (my) confusion. You can be roaming, but not paying extra for it. That is what VZW's Extended Network is. This would be the AC map for AC plans, the local map for LDC plan.

However, VZW'own native coverage is much smaller that that area. That would be the carrier's coverage.

Hopefully, you got your answer form all this. 🙂
