Samsung A690!! "JUST A RUMOR "
I was talking to a VZW Tech today. I was asking if he knew anything about the Samsung A690 and the release date. He said that there is a rumor going around that it isn't going to be released anytime soon because they are upgrading the software to support the 1xEV-DO or something like that. Something to make it work better on the PTT network and with Mobile Web. He said they are currently rolling out the 1xEV-DO right now and it is only available in 2 cities, D.C. and San Diego. To me, I have no clue what this means, so if somebody can explain, I will be grateful.

1xEV DO is their high speed internet connection. I really hope this is a rumor because I have been waiting for this phone since August 2003. I spoke with customer service last week, while on there she tried to get me to renew my contract. I said I am waiting for a new PTT phone she said "we are coming out with a Samsung but I don't have a release date".
Does anyone have any other info on this phone or any other PTT phones coming out anytime soon?

All I know is that RadioShack is carrying leather cases for it already. I was in there the other day and they were on display which makes me think that the phone is coming soon. I hope so because my friend and I are waiting for it.

Actually PTT uses the 1xRTT to make PTT work. That is the service it uses. It does make sense that they aren't releasing the new Samsung PTT until the full release of the new 1XEV-DO service. Due to the high amount of complaints Verizon has been recieving about the delay to connect when it comes to PTT users. (The 1x EV-DO is a faster service than 1xRTT) If you don't believe this, call a CS agent (*611) and ask if you can get the mobile web kit for the V60P, they will tell you no, it is compatable with other V60 phones, but not the V60P because the PTT makes use of the 1xRTT.
