No more MultiMedia Phones

yeahright

Sep 21, 2010, 8:00 PM
Anyone see boygenius reporting that they are no longer going to require the $10 data requirement or classify phones as "3g multimedia"

Doesn't extend to current phones but going forward they dropped that stupid requirement!!

I apologize if anyone else posted this.

I was just at my Verizon store 3 days ago. The ridiculous $10.00 data requirement is still active. ๐Ÿ˜ข THIS is why I am LEAVING Verizon ๐Ÿ˜ˆ after 14 years of loyal patronage! It's absolutely asinine that they are shoving a data package down our throats if we do not want nor need one! I'm going to T-Mobile where the customer can still CHOOSE for themselves what package they NEED!

Not to sound like I'm beating a dead horse, but you still can choose the plan you need, the only difference is that your devices are locked to certain plans.

Yes, it sucks, but at the same time, without that requirement all 3gMM phones would be WELL above $100 on contract, and no one would want them anyway.

Yeah, it does suck....badly. That's why I'm choosing to switch carriers. If my new carrier sucks I'll be the first to admit it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm nothing if not honest. What's wrong with capitalization to emphasize certain words? Funny thing to point out isn't it?

I believe that your choice of words speak for themselves. Your letters don't need to scream anything out for emphasis when you select your words appropriately.

So because loyal patronage to verizon, which only has been in existence for 10 years, you feel because of this loyality you shouldn't have to pay this? There are non- data options, the question is do you like those options? Would you leave your electric provider, or favorite food chain due to a change in price? If so, is that loyality?

What justmarried is asking is, do you change the store you go to whenever the price of milk changes out of principal, or do you accept that change is inherent in any service on the free market?

People find themselves passionate about something as simple as phone service, but don't think to bat an eye when the price of gas goes up or the cost of milk doubles. Sure, they'll complain, but will they actually make their voice heard with their wallet? Not very likely.

I love the over-emphasis with the capital letters. A nice touch. I think I'll USE them, TOO.

Still active - first, you're upset because the store didn't jive with a RUMOR on the Internet. When you get CONFIRMATION from Verizon that this is ACTUALLY going to happen, THEN you can be upset about it. When you get upset about RUMOR, it's as if you're emotions are tied to which way the wind blows. Remember, the Internet is NOT Moses and the Ten Commandments.

Second, if the rumor turns out to be true, then that means that FUTURE phones would lack the data requirement. Note on the original post that yeahright said "Doesn't extend to current phones but going forward they dropped that stupid requirement!!" You'd have to wait for some NEW ...

You know....there's no reason to be so peeved about my post, which is my opinion. I love Verizon. I just see this new requirement as a "kick you when your down" sort of thing. People have to watch every penny they spend nowadays, and Verizon tacks on an unnecessary required package to some awesome phones that people could enjoy having without the need for a data package. I'm sorry that you take such umbrage at my opinion.

My problem with your opinion is you're too emotional about it. When you register a complaint, express your opinion, or enter into discussion with someone or on a board, you should keep your emotions in check.

I'm really not peeved. I'm not a jerk. Most of the people who have been on here for a long time will tell you I'm usually the level-headed voice, the person who can see both sides of an argument and find balance between them in discussion. However, some will also point out that I have difficulty with people who just fly off the handle about something for no good reason.

You don't like the data requirements. Neither did I. Same with most of us here, a good number of which are employees of Verizon or it's affiliations. Trut...

๐Ÿ™‚ I don't anyone was trying make you look stupid. You did that for yourself. I love people who want the hot phone with no plan and are not willing to pay for the phone and then two weeks later bring it back. Then whine about a restocking fee on a phone that they burned hundreds minutes, with story it drops calls. I know your not one of those people, I'm just saying.

So when yeahright speaks, it must be truth.

So am I to assume that when something is posted on the All Mighty Internet, by virtue of it being said it must be true?

Yeahright mentioned the source of the information, which was clearly not Verizon Wireless itself. Your response seemed as if you believed that Verizon had lied about data requirements going away, even though Verizon never said that.

I'm not trying to insult you, and I certainly didn't call you stupid. That would be counterproductive to the conversation. Words speak for themselves - if that makes someone look stupid, that will reflect on the author of those words and no one else.

I'm a seven-year employee who treats customers with respect. I treat them like family. I did not treat you the same way. You came into this forum flying off the handle with an immature, illogical rant, so I called you out. For those of us who frequent this forum, we often feel like this is our home among the madness of our industry. When you came into our home with disrespect, you got a similar treatment.

If you don't care what any of us have to say, why come here? Why not just file your complaint with Verizon and be done with it?

I don't wear panties, thanks, though.

I am aware of that... this change does not do anything to current line up...but all phones moving forward in 4th quarter will not require it. SO yes, 3 days ago it was true you had to pay $10. Today it is also true, in a month it will be true for any phones that exist today, but all phones from this point on that are released will not be tagged "multimedia"

Long story short... if your new phone doesn't meet your expectation and you come back to Verizon in the next 30 days that requirement will be gone

But people complaining that the ENV4 (or whatever) if it doesn't require data is now 189.99 on contract like the Env3 was originally (or the EnV2 before that)

I said it when the data requirement went into effect, and I'll say it again here. If customers were willing to pay a premium up front (smaller subsidy) for high end feature phones, "Mandatory data" wouldn't have happened (at least not like it did for phones like the V3)
