Dear Fascinate- I wanted to love you...
The phone does not use Google as its default search. And it doesn't utilize Yahoo! either. No, the Fascinate search engine defaults to Bing. Bing is used for the homescreen widget. It is defaulted to in the browser. It is present across the device... and there's no way to choose a different search engine. Like, you know -- Google. When we pressed Verizon reps about this, they let us know in no uncertain terms that the stock engine is Bing without a second choice....
This was maddening to us. We don't have a personal issue with Bing, but it's not our engine of choice, and we'd be willing to bet that it's not yours either. Now, imagine buying an Android phone -- a Goog

You just need to forcestop bing search, reset defaults and then configure the google widget to be the default (unless they did some serious hacking of the software to block this)
That's why an "update" to my BlackBerry doesn't give me the Google option as my default search provider for web browsing. I just changed my homepage to Google.com at that point and downloaded the Google app. At least the pre-loaded Bing app is just a shortcut to get the full app, probably less than 1kb in size, and thank god I can just hide it. 🙂
Can someone in our government that all bloatware must be removable? This garbage on phones is getting ridiculous.

Her's was ok but mine had sadly gone belly-up; it just sank under it's own weight and I'm limping along waiting for my NE2 in Oct. She has upgraded to the S2 (go figure, I tried to point out the Androids to her but she's a BB kinda girl I guess). To be fair this is a vastly better device but it still suffers from build quality.
