Going to Turkey in September and have a Blackberry Tour. What should I do for service overseas? What are my options for having phone and internet service at a reasonable price? I'm going into my Verizon store today to discuss with them, but would like to be halfway informed on some options before I get there. Thanks for your help.

Don't even bother wasting YOUR time in a store. Go here:

You can go into a store, there are knowledgeable reps in the store that can help you. Or contact global support and they will advise of your calling rates, and they will setup your device.

Why bother going to a store when the link is posted right there? Depending on the store size they may no longer have retail customer support reps in place. All of his answers are available via the link Cell posted.

At a store, they can have the sim card activated immediately and given the same service they receive over the phone and get clairification of any questions of coverage that they may have.

Odds of talking to a moron at international services that doesn't know the difference between "roaming" and "long distance":

Close to zero

Odds of getting some commission-hungry salesjerk at retail who will simply tell you what you want to hear so he can make a commission on some "feature add":

Lots higher

Why deal with it? The only reason to ever go to a store is if the guy in the call center says, "I can't fix that from here."

Sorry, but they can't all be as knowledg...

As someone in the store, I can tell you that most reps I know are more than happy to help, and not for the commission. The commission is ZERO. The customer activates the service, then disconnects it later, netting a ZERO commission and no credit for it on metrics. If the change straddles a monthly switch, the metrics might show a positive, but in the end it will still net nothing. The only way it would work out well for the rep would be if the feature is left on for a few months - people who need the feature all the time.

Sure, you'll find people who don't know anything. You'd find that over the phone, too.

Well...I spent five years in retail and two in call center. I would say that calling in would be the better idea ESPECIALLY as only A and B stores have Retail Customer Support Reps now. Verizon has been taken over by Alltel. At least they are following Alltel's model. (I worked at Alltel before AT&T and VZW). I went into a VZW in Dallas because the Mobile Broadband feature wasn't working on my phone. The assistant manager tried to strong arm me into upgrading to a Pre. I told him no. I had to call tech support just to get him to try a CLNR/FRU. I wasn't asking him to activate it, but merely to plug it up to see if my computer would recognize it. If I were not a former employee who knew better, I would have likely upgraded for no d...

You know I can't speak to that store, but I can assure you my own store is not operated like that.

Most stores, A or B, have gotten rid of customer service reps. We got rid of technical reps, too. Sales reps do everything. Not that I entirely agree with that, but that's what it's come to. These sales reps are expected to know everything, and pitch in just like everyone else. Commission or non-commission. The best service will bring customers back. Merely suckering them into something will not.

Phone calls:
$2.89/minute while roaming in Turkey.
$2.29/minute if you add the $4.99 International Roaming Value plan (not to be confused with the International CALLING plan)

Internet on device:
$64.99 monthly feature will give you unlimited Internet ON THE PHONE.
Otherwise, you will pay $0.02/KB (about $20.48/MB).

Internet on computer using phone as a modem:
$0.02/KB. There is no other price option for "tethering" your device.

Text (if it works):
$0.50 to send
$0.20 to receive

Features, such as the $4.99 Intl Value calling plan and the $64.99 GlobalAccess (web on phone) plan can be changed when you come back.

Be sure to have your SIM card activated at least three days before you leave. Going to the store on your way ...

But use MMS when sending messages to emails. Gives 1000 characters instead of 140.

It only cost me $0.73 per minute to call home when I was in Turkey in June, using an unlocked quad-band GSM phone that I bought inexpensively on eBay and:
