Android Purchased App Question

What happens to Android apps that I have purchased when I change to another Android phone? I have the HTC Droid Incredible and I love it. I have no plans to change phones anytime soon, but my brother-in-law just upgraded from an iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4. Some how he was able to back-up all his 3G apps in iTunes and then install them on his new iPhone. This caused me to think what will happen to my purchased Android apps if I ever upgrade to another Android phone. Most of the apps I download are free, but I do have a few paid apps including Slingplayer ($30), and Navionics ($12), and some others that are under $5. Will there be a way for me to move purchased apps off my Incredible and onto another Android device in the future?

Your apps are attached to your Gmail login so, all paid apps will be available to you on the other Android device once you log in.

Free apps may have to be downloaded again.

If you download Astro file manager, you can back up most free apps on your phone to the SD card.
