I hope they do. I would like to get one tomorrow, but I can't be at my local Verizon store when they open. I probably won't get there until later in the day.
...
If you pay for one. Won't they hold it for you?
...
Nope. At least not yet. I called yesterday and they said I can't reserve or pre-order one. Strictly first come, first serve. Now if I get there tomorrow and they're sold out, I guess at that point I can order one. Who knows how long that could take?
...
Did you call Best Buy?
...
Nah...the people at my local Verizon store have always treated me good. I'd hate to take the business away from them. Besides, the closest Best Buy store is a 45 minute drive for me. That's not bad if I'm just going there once to buy the phone, but if I have issues with the phone I might have to go back.

Thank you for supporting your local Verizon corporate store, which often gets treated like the red-headed stepchild of stores on Phonescoop.

The company I used to work for recieved NO phones in their inventory around here, and they didn't ship any to their sub-agents.
Apparently they will have plenty for corp stores, and as usual agents will get screwed.
...
Most corp stores got a got stock of them. Also they will be doing drop shipments during the week. You can go online and order. We did take pre-orders at my store. We will order the phone and overnight the device. In my area there seems to be a good level of phones availiable.

I work for a larger agent we got 500 for 50 stores. Do you work for a smaller angent?
...

I just consult part time for a sub-agent. They're part of a network of stores that covers 12 states and several hundred locations.
...
Probably cause you live in a town of 30k people. Not a high demand for smartphones.

It's not just our store, we've called all the stores in the region. besides for corporate, it seems like none of them have them. That is an area of approx 1 million people.
...
Harrisburg and Lancaster included?
...
MennoJul 14, 2010, 4:47 PM
nope, NEpa/NY. There could be other retailers with them. but this network doesn't have them
...
The 5 I received are long gone.
...
None in the Midwest either. They released 2500 to agents in the Midwest and 2500 to agents in the south and they were gone in seconds. Looks like the same amount will be released towards the end of the week for the next couple weeks. Good luck getting in on it.
...
We have about 7 company wide and we're a premium agent with over 200 locations. 😳 Really? Our store has a waiting list of more than that...
...
MennoJul 15, 2010, 9:25 AM
the store near me ordered 9 of them within an hour of them going up for pre-order. their waiting list is 15 people long, and when they try and find out when they'll be shipped all they get is "when they come in stock."
Either Verizon Corp is royally trying to screw over indirects here, or someone really effed up.
...
I wonder why it matters to Vzn who sells them whether it's a corporate store, or indirect, they still have another customer locked down for another 2yrs, guaranteed monthly revenue.
I only paid $20 for my Droid, but it's Verizon that gets my mionthly bill, so I say who cares who sells what it's still the carrier that gets the monthly payments.

Because if they make sure all the retailers have ample stock they run the risk of being short at corp stores.
if a retailer is out of phones, it's business as usual. If the corp store runs out, news stations will make posts about how it's on "backorder" and use it as an excuse to push people away from the device.
...
Oh, I think I understand now. So your saying it's all about PR?
...
Not only that. They'd rather keep plenty in the channels they don't pay commission to. Like online and telesales.
...
From a consumer point of view I think I'd rather buy from online or telesales anyway, no line, less hassle.
...
No community support, no customer service, no transfers either.
...

if you buy online that's your choice. The problem is that most people buy online and then think it's their right to go into any store that has verizon on the front (most likely an indirect since they hate signing in at corporate stores) and demand a reps time to give them free support.
It's not buying online that's the biggest issue (although it is a huge problem for reps wanting to make money)the problem is those customer coming in and using the resources of the store (why they cost more than online in the first place) without providing any revenue for that store.

It must be an industry wide standard to screw agents. As an at&t agent we have recieved negligible iphone 4 shipments in comparison to at&t COR, bestbuy, and apple retail stores. It makes us look bad because we still have pre-orders we are trying to fill and customers are getting angry.
