General question about putting movies on a phone.

do you really need or want to watch a movie on a 3.7 screen?
Nope. That's why I'm getting a 4.3" screen.
Look, if you don't have anything productive to contribute, please just don't post. kthanks
You'd need to break the DRM to put it on your device.

The digital copies you get with DVD's are typically locked so they ONLY work with an iphone as far as mobile devices go.

Seriously? Well that sucks. I was hoping I had a way to legally transfer and watch movies that I already own.

I found a program for free on line called magic DVD ripper. it can copy any DVD into the same format as the iphone uses. you get like 7 free rips before you have to pay for it. it works very well for me. hope this helps.
Personally, I use ImTOO software (well worth the buy): http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-to-3gp-converter.htm l
Take the DVD that came with your set, put it in your computer, rip it to 3gp format...
There are other free solutions out there... I used to use one that had an extremely bizarre name, I forget... it was slow, but worked very nicely.
If you use a solution that doesn't have preloaded formats/sizes/etc. you can easily search for the proper resolution, etc. online based on your phone model.
I've been doing this with movies ever since I discovered the (temporarily down) site videos4blackberry.info ... I found out the site used ImTOO software so I picked ...

Grab a nice 8-16 gb MicroSD and you have room for about 16-38 movies 🙂
Or, you can mix and match... I have 42 TV shows, 3 movies, 62 full CDs on my 16 GB which is only HALF FULL! 🙂
Do NOT be afraid to reduce down the size of the file, you will probably not notice a difference...
Oh, and don't rip subtitles into it unless you really have to have them because you can't turn them on/off.
I used a stripping-down software called "Complete Mobile Media Center" to rip it all down to 480x360 and 7 frames per second and I can't tell the difference between that and HD recordings (on the 3" screen).
But I've never cared enough to try and get copyrighted stuff on my mobile. Sounds like a question for jayshmay.
I doubt I'll be loading a ton of movies on my phone, but it might be nice two have a few for when I get stranded in an ariport.

Actually I suggest to use 23.96 fps (NTSC standard) and 44,400 for sound quality.
I did run the audio around 44k and I did a test video where the only thing I changed was the frame rate from 7 to 30 fps.
My eyes could not tell the difference between the two, because it was basically a recording of a guy writing on a whiteboard explaining RF propagation equations and stuff like that. If it had been a video of skateboarding in a half-pipe, I probably wouldn't be satisfied with 7 fps.
Anyhow, I had like 4 hours of video to convert and the process went a lot faster at low fps. I'm sure I'll do something different if I ever do higher quality content.

I can see that situation being ok for 7 fps ... but, when you're talking about movies (especially action movies) ...

I like watching videos on my Droid, mostly video clips on the Newsy app, 1Cast app, porn (of course). But I'm not really into watching videos that are 90 minutes to 2hrs long on my smartphone.
Would've been nice if Motorola put a kickstand on the X though. Like HTC did with the Evo.

Take my hand...
No thanks. My door doesn't swing in that direction.

Oh I'm still going to be reading books...ON MY NEW SMARTPHONE WITH THE FREE KINDLE AP!!! 😁

AnyDvd + CloneDVDMobile
AnyDVD removes copy protection. Not sure how well it does with BluRay, but I've yet to have serious issues with DVD's.
CloneDVDMobile rips unprotected content into the format of your choosing - often with quick shortcuts (You can choose from stuff like "AVI", "iPhone", "Zune" etc).
They *ARE* paid programs. cant' remember how much. Got my copies a long time ago and haven't regretted it a moment.
Once ripped... either copy to SSD or transfer via usb. Simple
oh, if you don't have a ripper you can get one there to 😁
