OH NO! CINGULAR'S ARPU IN THE TOILET... AGAIN!!!!

BetterThanJake

Apr 20, 2005, 7:50 PM
From RCRNews:

"Despite the strong customer growth and retention efforts, Cingular's average revenue per user results continued to slide, dropping from $51.26 in pro forma ARPU during the first quarter of 2004 to $49.59 this year. The carrier noted that the decline, which Cingular has previously attributed to the popularity of lower-ARPU-generating family plans, was slower than the 5.5-pecent drop posted between the fourth quarters of 2003 and 2004.

Cingy's ARPU down 5.5 percent last quarter, and now down 3.3 percent this quarter?!? OUCH... that's GOTTA HURT. đŸ˜ŗ

Poor Cingy, they're killing themselves trying to keep up with VZW.

After all, as Kingfrog has pointed out t...

Show me one post where I said APRU was important to me...But it is to you so here are the real numbers as released by AP today

Telecom analyst Jeff Kagan said the subscriber numbers bode well for Cingular long-term. He said competitors who sought to take business from Cingular as it absorbed AT&T Wireless did not appear to have been successful.

Average revenue per user in the quarter was $49.59, a 2.7 percent increase from $48.30 a year ago. The prior-year figure excludes AT&T Wireless. Average monthly churn -- the rate at which customers switch to other providers -- fell to 2.2 percent in the quarter from 2.7 percent a year ago. The prior-year figure also excludes AT&T Wireless.

Seems to me you got bad information they i...

I'll post another dozen or so later if you like 😁

But it is to you so here are the real numbers as released by AP today

Don't bother spinning it, KF. Here's the real numbers, FROM CINGULAR'S OWN PRESS RELEASE:

Reported average revenue per user (ARPU) in the quarter was $49.59, versus $49.97 (pro forma) in the preceding quarter and down 3.3 percent from pro forma ARPU of $51.26 in the year-ago first quarter.

Nice backpedal, KF. So now ARPU does matter, but VZW's is gonna drop more than Cingy's? lol

Dunno KF... last quarter, Cingy's ARPU dumped 5.5 percent, VZW's only 2.5... I'd worry more about Big Orange than Big Red. But take comfort... you've made us all very aware of the ARPU stat. Thanks for doin' that. 😉

actually im guessing they are going to make more money off the txt msgs because more people are going to want to go for txt msges now that its unlimited IN txting. i have been getting so many more people signing up with txt msges then ever before. i dont really mean to step on peoples feet but im just stating my opinion. i just think verizon is going to be more favored now with the in txting.

BTW I choose the exclusion of ATT Wireless number because they are still working on the integration of the companies and there will be as expected more issues and ATTWS had dismal ARPU becasue they gave away too much.....like VErizon is doing lately. AND I do not belive they are counting ATTWS migrations in there addition numbers.

When it settles the numbers will be fine and by the end of the year Cingular will show a profit.
Watch and learn Jake....

Cingular has less worries right now then Verizon and the word is out...fasten your seatbelts, its gonna be a bumpy ride at Big Red

So Cingy's ARPU crash is all ATTW's fault? Tsk... just like ARROGANT Cingular to blame all their troubles on someone else. For shame KF.... for SHAME Cingular!

Cingular is nor arrognat at all. We are in the process of digesting AT&T wireless we are focused on cingular not on Verizon. We don'e even speak Verizon's name around the office. We talk about Cingular and how to amke Cingular better. There is no arrogance at cingular only continued focus on cingular and completing network integration.

I actually don't hate Cingular. I think their marketing is terrific, actually. This thread was posted mainly to annoy a Verizon-bashing troll (kingfrog), and it worked, since he rushed to defend Cingular all over the place, all wild-eyed and waving his hands in the air.

Just trolling a troll, I guess. If ppl would stop bashing Verizon, I probably wouldn't even bother talking about Cingular. 😉

Yeah that worked. Im not a Cingualar fan boy. Im for ANYONE who takes Verizon to task.Cingular, T MObile...Sprint..I like them all equally. I like watching the VErizon folk whine ablot banning those who they laughed at last year now that those laughs are turning into frowns of frustration...

Funny how you choose to exclude att when it is convenient for your argument.. So many times in the past you quote numbers from cingular including att to make them seem so good and now all of a sudden (due to backpeddling) you say that you exclude them.. how very intriguing. And don't waste time and say you never did it cause if you get proved wrong again you may actually have to stop running that mouth of yours for a while. 🙄

Not actually RUFF, read it again buddy:

"drop posted between the fourth quarters of 2003 and 2004"

It's talking about Oct. thru Nov. of 2004...which excluding this last quarter mean it was only about a Quarter ago. Not only that but you know how it goes RUFF. Year over year. Thats how they compare. It's saying that ARPU was down 5.5% in the 4th Quarter of 2004 from where it was at 4th Quarter 2003...not the entire year bro!

Uh, you're contradicting yourself. "drop posted between the fourth quarters of 2003 and 2004" is saying the total drop that occurred between the time from December 31, 2003 to December 31, 2004. That's an entire year is it not?

You also said that it goes year...

Rather than rip me for my profile why don't you actually read my posts. I don't drink the carrier cool-aid as the company for which I previously ran stores sold both Verizon and Cingular. I have also sold Nextel, Airtouch, LA Cellular and GTE in the past.

You've got two strikes. Don't watch the last one pass you for strike three.
