Can anyone tell me if Verizon will ever carry the IPhone. I like Verizons coverage but am not liking their selection of phones

People are going to be hestitant to respond to your post because this topic has been beat to death on here. I don't think anyone knows for sure. It's mostly speculation. Do a search and you'll find MANY threads on here about this.

Longer answer:

Verizon will get an iphone eventually, but most likely not anytime soon.

If the only phone that will satisfy you is an iphone, you'll have to go to att to get it.

That being said, i would take a SERIOUS look at android and possibly Windows Mobile7. I'm not saying that these are "iphone replacements" but for a lot of people, they will do what most customers want a device for

If I can ask, what is it that the iphone has that you want so badly? Maybe I can offer some alternatives if ATT won't work for you. Because if you're dead set on a verizon iphone, chances are VERY good you can get a 2 year contract (either with Verizon or ATT) and won't have to worry about one coming out until after you're eligible to upgrade...

I would go so far to say that iPhone is an "Android replacement." The only thing I can't say right now is that Android App Market has 150,000 apps. What I CAN say, however, is that I don't have to sift through nearly as many fart apps to find what I'm looking for.

At the earliest (End of original 5 year contract)

Things *MAY* change... but to expect otherwise is stupidity.

Some may hope... pray... dream... cry... All of the above in the same day.

Still the fact remains that Verizon and Apple don't agree on terms, while AT&T is more than willing to play the bitch. Sell their soul to the Devil.

Well it is nice to know that Verizon can stand up to big, bad Apple. I suppose AT&T has to settle for selling 1.7 million iphones in a weekend.

the biggest issue is that apple demands so much money from carriers (before a SINGLE device is sold) that it basically makes it unprofitable for companies to promote ANY other phone but the iphone (see all the documentation surrounding how one sided their deals with carriers are world wide)

And this is in addition to the amount that carriers have to subsidize that phone, the exceptions they have to make to their rules when it comes to the phone maker's cut of a device, and how much control that phone maker has over pricing, availability, etc.

Yes, ATT sold a ton of phones. But raw numbers arn't the only thing that matters.

On average, ATT is earning $3 more for average data revenue per customer than verizon, and this is with a SIGNI...

Menno! You're not in wireless sales anymore! (Very smooth however).

No it doesn't. Unless STEVE JOBS says something, it won't happen with apple.

Think about it. In what bizzarro universe does a january release for the iphone make sense?

1. It's after Christmas holiday buying (which is the best season for retail)
2. If announced early, it will KILL holiday sales. If announced late, it will DESTROY stores with people doing refunds/exchanges.
3. They've been saying the same thing for 4 YEARS. the only thing that's changed is the release date.
4. January is typically crappy for phones and sales in general. A november/december or summer release make MUCH more sense. The date alone should have you questioning the sanity of the person who posted it.

BOTTOM LINE:
This wasn't true the last 50bi...

And they got their source from what? bloomberg, just like EVERYONE ELSE>

This is how the media is. someone posts a story, and then everyone else writes/talks about it.

CBS said we were getting the iphone in JUNE just a few months ago.

Again, they don't know what they are talking about, they are posting just the latest string of rumors that have ABSOLUTELY NO FACTS behind them.

Don't believe me? post proof. Proof=Press release from Verizon or Apple. I'll even accept a verified BRANDED prototype shot.

It's a rumor, and an old rumor at that. It's like those chain letters from "microsoft" that promise your $500 if you forward it to your friends.

No, I think that Menno, like many of the regular contributors here, are just plain sick and tired of VerIphone this and VerIphone that. Every three months a new rumor is written by a legitimate news organization that Verizon is going to sell the iPhone within the next six months, and when said release should be happening, we merely see another "news story" saying we might be getting it within six months.

It gets very tiring.

Yes, epik, I can understand that. However, both the CBS Radio Network and its Washington, DC affiliate, all-news radio WTOP, were on this story last night like white on rice. I had never heard it before on a respected source, even if you, Menno, or anyone else, had. I do understand the frustration, but this one sounded pretty official to me. Take it at face value.

I used to work at a newspaper as a journalist, and I still have a handful of contacts in different media formats. Trust me, if a news organization can ride on the coattails of buzz news, they will. Even the big news outlets do it.

It's a lot cheaper to retransmit someone else's news and pay licensing fees than generate - or validate it - on your own.

or the Iphone in june? Then when that didn't pan out, news services were talking about rumors of an august release. And then Verizon flooded the market with new android devices. So suddenly the release moved to January.

And when no announcement happens in November, suddenly the release date will become sometime in the spring, and then the fall, etc. Just like it has for FOUR YEARS.

Iphone rumors have been written by the WSJ, CBS, CNET, Foxnews, any any of several dozen "reputable" outlets. It would be impossible NOT to hear the rumor from a source.

On top of that, a january release would be nothing but NEGATIVE for verizon (either with a slower than usual holiday season, aka stock plummeting, or a TON of returns) IF verizon wa...

This morning I get an email with quick details on how to respond (once again) to the claim that Verizon is getting the iPhone. In short, it says NO.

Neither Verizon or Apple have announced any official relationship or product for the future.

The original article by BLOOMBERG, and subsequent retransmission through various news organizations, is merely market speculation.

Gawd I hope not!! I'm so sick of ieverything. Besides that phone is starting to look dated; small screen, crappy antennae (don't forget to buy your $30 rubberband so you can actually use the damn thing-lol). Dear Leader says 'nothing is wrong-stayed tuned' hahahahahahaaha
Actually I agree with Meno's arguments here, doesn't make sense, bad timing (sorry SCOTT, perhaps next summer, late).

.....so lets just take it at that.

one, i don't believe it's going to come any time soon, that being said......

....if it did come to Verizon, i would believe it would it wouldn't be until Fall 2011 at the earliest and it would be a 4G Iphone because that makes the most sence. Verizon would have almost a full year with there 4G up and all the 4G phones will be coming out and since At&t's 4G will just be coming into completion, Apple would want to get into the party and not get left behind. This to me makes the most sence for Apple and Verizon, But i doubt it will happen.

I already have and i don't. It's doesn't make any sence from a business stand point, unless the phone is 4G, and unless the antenna issue is resolved. If it's not a 4g Iphone it wouldn't even be worth looking at because one cool thing that At&t does have over verizon is that you can surf and talk at the same time and a CDMA Iphone won't be able to do that. Personally if it's true i wouldn't even consider it and just look at the 4G phones coming out, because to me it would be dumb to buy an Iphone in January and then in the fall a 4G Iphone comes out.

again my rumor is based on fiscal sence and nothing more.
